Here's a recent purchase. A Tonak-Huckel hat, size 60 cm. "Supreme Soleil" quality, and the color is number 81.

I'm happy with its arrival because I make it a point to source hats from Central Europe.

They're often fantastic in terms of felt and workmanship.
This one, of course, has a heather felt that enchants me. The paper label is quite old, and when it's photographed against the wisteria, it will also appear, so Steve can give us more information about its production.

To make it stand out more, I used a matching jacket and sweater for a triumph of grays.

My warmest compliments for your hats, which are different and interesting every day.
Thank you for your likes regarding the French Berry.
A triumph of greys, indeed, Daniele! You look SPLENDID in that ensemble!

Based on the color name I would think early 1960s.
Interesting name Orbit for Grey. They had science fiction & space back with Buck Rogers & many in the 50's too.
True the world was just getting into space & orbit in the 60's though..

There's a phone number & it looks old but I don't know how old. I think by the 60's most phone #'s had two letters & 5 numbers not 4. Just a guess but clearly 50's or 60's hat

Like the name though. Orbit, Moonglow etc

EXPLORER IN ORBIT PROBABLY IS 60'S & that phone number is 4 numbers. Depending upon the town it had about 10,000 people.

I'm into dating Resistols but after 60's.

What quality is it? Fur Felt? $12 in 1960 is about $130 so not a cheap hat. Rent could be had under $100 a mo in 1960.
Most people didn't spent a months rent value on a hat. Tried to look him up as that's always interesting.
Harry Lesene (y) came up ???

Nice hat in wonderful condition.

Been Lurking & envying all the hats but I never looked good in hats. Well, I revolted & am now into 3 Western Beaver X's.

First dive was a 6 7/8 6X Black Serratelli,

2nd A 6 7/8 Black Resistol 3X HAND CREASED that has the normal Resistol liner but has BR *** Beaver on the sweatband & a label with "Felt Headwear By Byner Rolnick Division of Koracorp Inc Suggested $162 / Suggested retail $25 Mark up 46%

Today in original box a 5X Palomino Cattle King 4 in brim in Sz 7 with receipt from Wells Boot Center Hurst TX dated 3/12/82 $75. Like New with a spot or two inside the liner. It's full of powder. I love the cool color. It was said to be Silver Belly or light gray. Needs a bit of spruce up in the steam crease dept as it's been in the box looks like for almost 40 years. Wonder how long it was in the store before it was purchased, F00730 seems to be a late 70's type ticket # from what I have seen. I can't find any united or amalgamated label in it. 1982 should have the former. Anyway gave it a punch to smooth the crown, little brush, steam & shape. Tall crown but I'm sure someone can get it to fit me better. Color is like the last photo.
Welcome.. and well…. There’s no sense in fighting it at this point. :D

Congrats, Joe! And that is a perfect stylish homburg for the occasion.

I can only approve of another great homburg, Joe!
Thank you Stefan. I’m struck a bit by the difference in ”wearability“ between these two hats (in my own perception). While they both as homburgs tend to lean towards more formal… the Dobbs feels like it stays in that vein… where the St Regis can also be just as comfortable in tshirt, jeans and sneakers. Maybe it’s the Stetson in it.. but as much as it may be a more formal hat as an homburg… it carries a tiny bit of western vibe with it as well.

Just a bit chilly, breezy, and trying to rain... Time to try and pick up some more pecans with the roller before it rains and they sink into the mud. ( or the puppy swallows them lol) Got a bit over 6 gallons harvested yesterday. Good day for a big ol' hat. Today its a nice old Resistol 5x. The longer its here with a big flat brim the more I like it. Im going to forgo any temptation to curl the brim. With the tall crown (almost 7") Im afraid any brim reduction would look funny.... so Im thinking its going to stay just like it is.... Maybe try to find a slightly wider braided horsehair band.
