just a really stripped down casual minimalist cross-zip for the JP casual market. I highly doubt it's horsehide.
Nope, assuming it’s the same as mine it isn’t a stripped down C2, which I agree doesn’t work terribly well. It’s a distinct pattern, which IMO works quite differently to the one pictured here.

Note the non-C2 back:

My bad, didn't see the back, only the front
Tbf I don’t know what the back of @AeroFan_07’s looks like but I reckon it’s the same. It’s quite distinct from their other patterns, feels almost British in vibe (I will not be explaining this claim further) and also has vague echoes of Monitor’s much envied (by me) and since departed custom Iade, though a bulkier cut…

Thanks for the updates & research on this one. It's delayed in shipping, so it will likely be late next week before it arrives. Interesting, but I am suspecting it will be a bit too large on me, and if it is it'll be in the classifieds soon.

After seeing that back I’m even more convinced it’s based off the Comet pattern. In my opinion, the Comet is possibly Vanson’s most impressive pattern because they get great comfort and range of movement without using any straps, gussets or bifolds.

So, the Mystery Vanson arrived in excellent condition. Actually, it's quite nice, smells literally brand new and maybe only tried on a handful of times in its life. Nearly NOS condition here and excellent, thick grainy Comp-Weight Cowhide. However, that said the mystery continues and even heightens a little - This jacket lacks sleeve zippers completely. I see that @unhatted red lined jacket does have sleeve zippers. So, I called and then emailed over to Vanson with the serial # and have requested a price for adding sleeve zippers to this jacket. It might as well have them, especially since the provisions are there for them. Also, I asked for pricing and options for a method to adjust the sides, even minimally.

I think it fits decently, it'll be a layering piece, hence the question about some type of side adjustment. The "fit photos" here are quite subpar but gives a general idea. I'll do a much more detailed review & photo shoot after I send it off and receive it back from Vanson.

Quick update for anyone interested in ordering a brown Vanson jacket. I spoke with Kim earlier today and she said the tannery they're working with finally nailed the tanning process for the whiskey and brandy Roma leathers so both are officially back on the menu. She's sending me samples and I will take photos and post them once they arrive.

Brief update to this previous post.

Here is a couple photos of a small sample of the original brandy roma leather next to a much larger sample of the newly available re-stock. The original versus the re-stock came from completely different tanneries, and so though the name is the same unsurprising that they appear a bit different. The original seems to have a slightly more red color to it. The re-stock definitely has plenty of pull up effect, which looks particularly exaggerated because I was stretching and folding the leather a lot to get a good feel for it. Maybe more pull up than on your maverick @torfjord ??Both are beautiful. Still a light weight leather. Always a bit difficult to capture appearance in photos but I thought to share.

I occupied myself trying on everything I could find in my size, including this Maverick. Not a lot of 40-42 to be found yesterday alas. I think this one was a Medium Weight and the only 40 in this style I could find.
Edit: you can see one of the Villainess jackets my wife was trying on in the background to the left.

Some quick and dirty (low light) pics of my new (old) C2.

Guessing it’s last millennium given the hardware—brass talon zippers and box, though interestingly the plating has worn off the pull to reveal a silver colour and the box to reveal a redder brass colour. Like @TartuWolf ’s recent Oxford, which may be from a similar era, the quilted lining is weirdly immaculate despite minor signs of wear to the leather and hardware.

I’m on the fence as to whether a 36 might fit a little better. This definitely isn’t a T shirt fit but will see how it does with a warm jumper come autumn.

Looks fantastic @unhatted !
Personally I'd be thrilled if I received a C2 and it fit me that well.
Even with only a t-shirt that looks great on you, definitely not too big to my eye.
These are super easy to ****** in JP for a good price so consider hunting down a 36 for comparison, but this is fine as well in my opinion, especially for versatility with some layering.

Wow, congratulations!

Size looks right for me. You may be able to pull-off one size down, but keep in mind that it will be REALLY short then. Fit is so personal, but a jacket that looks that good with a T-Shirt AND leaves room to layer is a real unicorn to my mind.
