How much cuff / fold is too much ?

Diamond gussett is having a clearance sale on some of their classic jeans ( unintentional combined washes ) and I accidentally ordered a 38" inseam.
I like their pants and the color on these looks great, but at 5'6" these are way way too long and sewing/ hemming pants is not a skill I have or am looking to acquire.

At the low price they're having with free shipping I ordered another pair making sure to get the right inseam length this time, but I'd hate for these to just go to waste.

I only recently got used to wearing jeans with a rolled cuff at all ( DG jeans run a little long ), but I like a 1" folded twice.
They will shrink up a bit in the wash, but still 3" folded 3 times seems quite excessive to me.

I’ll cuff up to about 3.5” on older model jeans E.G Pike Brothers 1937 Roamers, less so on more modern patterns.

What’s your inseam on a pair of un cuffed denim with a similar rise?

All things being equal, I like about 1 1/2” of extra length to cuff the selvedge.

I rock like two inch cuffs. Works better with heavy denim. Why can’t you take to someone to hem, since you don’t have skill? Almost any local laundromat can handle if you don’t have better options available locally

I’ve never done it, but I think a lot of guys who plan to wear their jeans cuffed at all times will just cut them to size with scissors, leaving them rough and unhemmed. Any lose threads will be safely tucked into the cuffs. If you don’t wash them often, this should be ok in theory

I'm 5'8" and a two-inch cuff is enough for me. There are some characters in the rockabilly scene, like I mean the ******** rockabilly Germany's WWII-era leaderships who only wear vintage gab shirts with moth holes in them that are falling apart because only original pieces are 'authentic', who simply look ridiculous with 4 inch jean cuffs.

I'm definitely not going to be wearing these pants like this, a 1" cuff is what I'm comfortable with.

I didn't really want to trim and hem these pants by hand, but I am starting to think I may want to try it.
They only cost me $40 and I don't really have much to lose.

I found this short video on YouTube, and this is something I can definitely do.

Does anybody here with expertise advise against this method for any reason ?

I went ahead and cut & hemmed them by hand, but the stitching came out a bit sloppy and since I plan to wear them with a 1" cuff anyways I decided to fold a 1" cuff and permanently tack it down with a stitch at each end where the side seams are so you can't see it.
The thread I used was a pretty close match too.
I went with the same inseam length that my other DG made jeans came with and the same 1" cuff I normally go with, so they will need to shrink in the wash some.
Just like my others they should lose almost a full 1/2".

The hemm and cuff I did yesterday did not work out.
When I stitched the hemm I created a wavy edge that I thought would be hidden by the cuff but the cuff ended up doing the same thing.

I decided to cut that hemm off and tack down a permanent 1" cuff.
I had some green thread that I thought I'd try since I always like the green accent threads on the KEY bib overalls and my Big Smith bib overalls.
I went with an X on each end at the seam and an X in the center front and back to make sure it stays.

I just eyeballed it so it may not look great in that regard, but I think the concept was successful and should also be a functional success as well.

Seems to vary a lot. I like a deep cuff myself, though when it comes to denim, I think it's all about proportion to the width. Anything less than 2" - and any less than a double turn - looks off to me in the wide leg I like on denim. I imagine it'd look absurd on a modern skinny fit, though! :) Probably height is also a thing. A shorter gentleman might find it harder to get away with a deeper cuff, proportionately.

Best cuffs I ever had were on a pair of Wrangler 13MWZ I imported with a 38" inseam (I wear a 31" inside leg in trousers, normally). Three full rolls, nice deep, hefty cuffs that stayed in place.

I don't see any point in hemming jeans if you're going to cuff them - the whole point of a cuff there is to obviate the need to spend significant money on tailoring rough workwear. But it's all relative. My dad, who'll be 80 next year, really doesn't get me cuffing at all - he has his jeans hemmed to avoid any need of a cuff, and it boggles his mind that I intentionally buy them "too long" so I can roll them. Horses for courses an aw tha.

Diamond gusset are great jeans, I didn’t know about the sale unfortunately.. I’m 5”7 and all my pants are 31 inches long but I wear western style boots. When I’m not wearing boots, I need 30 long.. 38 in my opinion are way too long. Can you take them to a tailor and have them shorten? It cost $12 here in my area…

Cuffing is such a personal thing. I’ve seen a guy walk down the street with a cuff half way up his shin and while it doesn’t suit my style, but it looked just right on him. I used to want a 2 inch cuff on all my jeans and now I prefer to get them hemmed to length. Try messing about with it and see if you like the look of it. With really long inseams, the “Japanese cuff” is also a good way of folding it in a way that keeps it relatively small, while keeping it neat looking.

I already modified them.
For me they're just everyday pants that will get dirty in my workshop and be washed weekly, so I'm not trying to dress up or anything but I don't want to look like a bum either.

A tailor can easily adjust jeans and replicate the crinkled effect for a small amount extra. Cuffs (unless very thin or very neat) can look a bit … like you bought jeans without trying them on. On some people the cuffs look good, but I just look functionally impaired with them.

With how much of an excess inseam you have you are going to have to cuff them quite a bit. You will be walking around with big donut cuffs and it will probably look kind of silly. Just have a tailor hem them for you. It shouldn't be more than $20-$30 and your already saving money on the sale anyways.
