What are your thoughts on tan leather shorts? Apparently the Germans wear them—the ones with decorations.

How about one without decorations? Tenjin makes natural leather pants that could be converted to shorts.

I thought tan color would be the easiest to wear, just like khaki shorts, let’s say with a white tee or a nicely patterned short sleeve button front shirt. Other colors like black and brown would be more challenging.

Unless you’re targeting the poll specifically to the Bavarian journeymen amongst us, I don’t think you’ll get much support for leather shorts in the TFL forum…

I thought the men here like leather very much but the polls’ results have proven me wrong.

Traditional (Bavarian/Austrian) leather trousers are ok, but I don't like leather jeans shorts.

Even if the traditional trousers are short, I wouldn't call them shorts. When I think of leather shorts, that's what comes to mind.

No disrespect MrProper, but she looks a lot better than you in those shorts. ;)

You look very natural in these. If I may ask, when/what sort of events would you ever wear this outside? I’ve seen this sort of traditional leather trouser with suspender in videos of Oktobeerfest, but otherwise I don’t know much about European culture.

Those shorts are rather festive looking and more for special occasion rather than every day wear. As with your other attire the fit is ideal.

I only wear shorts around the house and outside when doing mowing and other related activity. I have rather spindly legs so it is long pants/trousers-slacks/jeans as to not scare the little ones when out and about.

I live in SoCal where people wear shorts (khaki and swim trunks) everywhere. Outside of a wedding and going to courts, I can wear shorts all the time, including going to church, for example. My eyes might be desensitized to shorts, and after seeing too many leather jackets, leather appears ok to carry over to shorts too. But I’m happy to get a reality check and people’s reactions.

We get some semi legitimate winter weather up here in my rural part of Norcal so I wear pants as much as I can get away with it and am required to wear pants at work no matter what, but on days off like like today when it's 104°f I definitely switch to my carpenter shorts.

I will admit that a shorts version of those leather pants you posted would probably look normal at a glance and I wouldn't really question some famous rockstar wearing them because that's kind of normal, but the idea is just odd to me.

I only wear them myself on special occasions, like Oktoberfest (Wies'n) or a traditional wedding or something. Rarely just around the house. But there are some people here who wear them as work trousers (then rather less embroidered, less festive) You also often see them at various festivals. Then, of course, with a T-shirt and sneakers. These trousers made from chamois-tanned deerskin are no bargain. The good ones start at around €1000 and there is no upper limit.
After all, these trousers used to be workwear.
This makes them look less festive.

Thanks for the interesting background info! €1000 and up is insane for a pair of shorts but you sport them very well! I guess now it makes more sense why some of you naturally like leather stuff, including leather jackets.

I like khaki and tan shorts, but they wear out fairly quickly (google says 3-10 years). I figure a leather pair of shorts would last decades, but then I’d have to wash them relatively often as compared to how often I’d wash leather jackets. If I happen to come across a cheap pair of leather shorts ($200-$300), I’m not going to turn down trying it out.

I've got three pair and love 'em. Two pair are wool intended for mountaineering and are perfect for that. The third is the typical German short lederhosen that break just above the knee. They're reserved for the occasional beer garden outing as they look a little uh, different. The wool versions though... they're a little more versatile. If you ever break a leg they're the coolest you'll find.

I live in the mountains so there's that.

In my experience the Google AI nonsense is very often wrong and I wouldn't go by any answers you receive from it.
Remember khaki and tan are just colors, there are countless manufacturers and many materials they can be made from.
If leather shorts are going to last longer than any other shorts you've ever had though and that's really important, go ahead and try out a pair of leather shorts.
