Post New Hats Here!

[J Williams]

Lewis from Ivano's find. C. 1930, I think he said. Beautiful felt.

Beautiful Max! I think I had my eye on that one as I really liked the colour. You wear it well!

[Frunobulax]

It really is amazingly nice. It was put 8n a time capsule. Thin, dense, light, obedient, smooth felt. Very happy with it.

I think the inside might be prettier than the outside.

"South Texan", an OR clone sold by Lichtenstein & Sons, Corpus Christi, TX. Probably a Resistol. More pics to come tomorrow.

"Even Prettier" I agree. [emoji16]

A couple of things about this derby. First, I got it at a substaintial discount from the asking price. Second, a huge thanks to one of my dear Lounge friends for helping coordinate the purchase. This hat made a rather lengthy trip around the U.S. to get here, but it got here in great shape. This stiff felt premier Knox "The Fifth Avenue" is typical of bowlers; black, 4 1/2 crown, 1 inch ribbon, and a small pleat on the liner. This one is dated 1930, so I'm glad about that. It has a few spots on the liner and has been worn, but the sweat is still soft and easily wearable and that's what i plan to do for years to come. Thanks for looking.

Nice derby Randy, you are a full convert!

Now why didn't they just stamp that date on all of em!

But then I guess we wouldn't have nearly as much fun doing our research and banter about hat minutiae.

Has to be a great hat with ‘Texan’ in the name.....

[Zombie_61]

You should then Steve visit Mikael and also post pics in the Hufvud thread. Someone posts the link please, doesn't seem to work on mine

I found the original owner's name & address tagged behind the sweat. He is still alive at age 90 & a lawyer. I'll include more when I post documentation on the hat.

Very cool ! I love it when you can find provenance on a vintage item. It would be great if you could get some pics of him wearing it back in the day.

At age 90 I won't be making any contact with him. He deserves respect. OT but I had quite an odd experience contacting in person a younger cousin to my grandfather when I was researching family genealogy...& we have the same surname.

Someone is selling his stuff for a reason.

Plus, he’s a lawyer, HJ. Might sue to get it back.

That is one great looking Bowler Randy, inside and out. You always look so good in them, too. Congrats, my friend.

Personal privacy is hard to maintain in this day & age. I would never contact someone out of the blue over something like a hat. Now if I owned the 1955 Mercedes Gullwing coupe they once owned...different story.

True, but you never know. He might be tickled to hear from you.

Pre auction estimated to be over $2M. If I could spend that I'd have "my man" contact his man.

Wow! That is one heck of a gorgeous car. Love its 1950s space-age, Sputnik look. I'd settle for that great hat you got out of the estate sale though, Jack [emoji4]
