All of these for $12,50? Are you kidding me? Just handling them would be worth that! Very cool hats, Bob. Pity that none of them are your size. They would need to be ignacioed
Thanks Stefan!
He works on straws all the time in his shop. I saw him sneer at a straw hat that had been machine-creased. He said creasing should be done by hand. I haven't seen him do it, or asked him how it's done. I will ask him next time I see him
My $12.50 lot of "straw" hats arrived. Mixed emotions, but what do you want for $12.50? Came with a couple of vintage hat boxes as well.
Auction photo:
Here is what arrived. First the Penney's Dynel (synthetic fiber). Hoping some water or steam will allow reshaping.

My second Caxton. This one I bought for 35 dollars, almost 6 per cent of what my first one cost, because this one was sooo dirty. Mud came out every time I put it in the gas bath, and it took four baths before it was clean.
Before and after pics.

No. I didn't like the one it had, so I had Ignacio change it when he reaized it. It was a size 7
John Lofgren Monkey Boots Shinki Horsebuttt - $1,136 The classic monkey boot silhouette in an incredibly rich Shinki russet horse leather.
Grant Stone Diesel Boot Dark Olive Chromexcel - $395 Goodyear welted, Horween Chromexcel, classic good looks.
Schott 568 Vandals Jacket - $1,250 The classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket, in a very special limited-edition Schott double rider style.
My new Stetson One Hundred, after being conformed by Ignacio. It was a 7 1/2, and the seller told me he had it altered.
The crown felt is very soft, and the brim is stiff as a board. Ignacio says the felt quality is excellent. He says the felt in the crown was turned inside-out at some point, and that the alteration was done in Mexico.
Fantastic hat, Steve. Underlines what a great hatmaker Cervo was back in the day. The colour, pork pie style, button side vents, thin rope ribbon with the bow flowing into the side, the design work on the liner and sweatband, not to mention the exquisite 5 ring stitching on the top and bottom of the crown all make it a joy to behold. It looks like a simple hat at first, but on closer inspection, it's a true beauty. No one could walk away from buying that hat. Congrats!Cervo Gold Bantam "Piuma", 59cm possibly later 1950s. This NOS find is from Daniele and my latest visit to the M. Hutter find in Merano, Italy. The detail work is really fantastic and the felt is very light weight with side vents.
