A Cocktail that has really grown on me: The ****** Mary

About an hour or so south of TJ just along the coast is a sports bar with a name like Ray's. Best ****** Mary I have ever had.

Do they serve a cervesa chaser with it?

I picked up a bottle of the Zing Zang ****** Mary mix and found it a bit disappointing. Yes, it really is spicy, which is good. But it's way too salty - a "serving" contains 25% of the daily requirements of salt! Interesting that they use anchovy for the salt content. I'm going to try to cut it with tomato juice.

I tried a 1/2 and 1/2 mix of tomato juice and Zing Zang and it made a nice spicy tomato juice, but not a ****** Mary!

I can just drink that stuff on its own but as a ****** Mary it is really good. :cheers1:

Love a good spicy ****** mary. I like to use the spicy V8 as a ****** Mary mix. A little horseradish is a good addition also.

Horseradish would be good.

And add some bitters for complexity and some cayenne pepper for a rather nice heat. Not too much of either though. A little paprika adds something too.

If you use Clamato juice it becomes a Ceasar, for some un-known reason the only places that I could find Clamato were Vegas and NY

I could never get used to the taste of clamato. Perhaps a lot of other people can't either. You can usually find it in ethnic food markets.

I like Camaronazo better. Clam juice doesn't work but liquid shrimp cocktail does.

Since starts this thread ages ago, I my latest fav is the Nashville Hot by Barsmith. I like the spicy yet robust flavor. It doesn't have that hint vinegar that the Zing Zang does.

What's your go-to ****** Mary mix?

Created by a local enough restaurant in the little town of Grass Valley. Great food and the best ****** Marys I’ve ever had. Discovered the ****** Mary mix first and decided to try the restaurant later. we are pretty darn happy we did.
