Your occupation and how you dress

What is your occupation? How does everyone dress according to job type but still remain wearing your vintage attire?

Does anyone happen to work in antique/vintage retail?

I work in retail, but sometimes I dress a little down. I tend to ruin my vintage clothes at work. Lifting and moving around work can easily destroy my clothes.

Please show me how you dress for work! Pictures are always nice!

If I was thinner I'd dress more vintagesque for my job. Think Rosie overalls and such. I work in a semi construction field (electrician for conventions, although with the way things are going and Obamas mouth and ppl taking him to heart conventions have slowed down so much this year I may have to go back to construction ) So I dress in jeans, tshirts, and tennis shoes.

It's mandatory that I wear a short-sleeve, button-up, candy apple red dress shirt with buttons on the collar tips. The shirt has the company's logo embroidered into the left breast above the pocket. The most "vintage" I can get is that my black pants have pleats and cuffs.

The real heartbreaker is that the restaurant is decorated with photos from its grand opening in 1942, where the waiters wore starched white dress shirts with (apparently optional) neckties, and the waitresses wore skirts and blouses. The company is supposedly trying to appeal to baby boomers, both with these photos and by playing pop standards around the clock (mostly modern cover versions, with very rare appearances by Doris Day, Sinatra, etc), but everything about their aesthetic, from uniforms to decor (insufferable fiesta colored abstract paintings) absolutely screams mid-90s corporate culture.

I'm a government cog in a large, drab office. The dress code is surprisingly lax considering that we deal with the public, but the good news is that we are allowed to dress pretty much however we like as long as we meet the minimum standards. I therefore dress as I feel a man should dress for this profession, showing pride in myself and respect for my clients and coworkers. Evidence of this may be found in the "What Are You Wearing Today?" thread, wherein all of the pictures of me are taken in my daily attire.

I realize that I am fortunate that I am allowed to dress thusly, although I find it ironic that classic men's attire is so often frowned upon in the modern workplace.

I'm an administrator at a university. The dress code is pretty lax, with many men wearing polo shirts and dockers. I did that for a while, but have started dressing better. I go for a vintage-inspired modern look.

I run a loading dock, and I am required to wear a red Polo shirt. I also wear work boots and jeans. My clothes get ruined very quickly doing a lot of lifting, hauling, etc. I am looking for a job in more of an office environment so I can actually wear a suit. Once my dad expands his business, I'll be working upper-management on the computer end of things for him, and will be going to a more vintage attire for work.

I'm a graphic designer, so can dress pretty much however I want. Some days are a bit messier with the inks and such, so I'll dress a little more relaxed. Other days I have project meetings with government or business clientele and will don tie and hat. Its a very old-fashioned town with a renegade 1860's mindset. Seeing a hat, suspenders, and a waxed mustache gives one a definite leg up on the competition.

I'm a copyeditor at a private financial marketing/consulting firm, but as a member of the creative department, I dress however I like. It's mostly jeans and nice shirts in our department, though lately the gals have been wearing more dresses and skirts. Funny - whenever you DO dress up, someone always says, "Oh, you're all dressed up. Have a job interview today?"

I'm a receptionist and I wear sort of vintage-style pieces though I own very little actual vintage wear - I'm still working on that.

Pencil skirts, high-waisted slacks, button-down blouses, and little jackets or vests or cardigans. I dress a little more traditionally/formally than the rest of the office but nobody minds, and I don't wear actual suits because that would be too much, only seperates.

I don't do pieces like big poofy circle skirts or gloves or anything.

I did wear a fedora and long trench to work a couple times this week because it was pouring rain, (and I walk to work) and I got a LOT of comments on "that awesome hat" but it was all good. At least to my face. lol

I feel so lucky! I work at the head office of a ladies' fahion retailer and I dress vintage and vintage inspired every day! And it's never looked down upon! My bosses love it!

I am a caricature artist. (The Harp Player thing has to do with my past time; playing blues harmonica.)

When I am hired to perform at private parties I either go with a given theme or wear business casual (blazer, tie, slacks, lace up cordovans and, of course, a vintage fedora). Usually at least the tie is from the '40s, and sometimes the whole outfit is vintage.

When I do my more regular retail gigs at outdoor festival settings here in Florida it's usually jeans, aloha shirts and loafers. Oh, and a vintage fedora or Panama straw.

When the temps ease a little and we get some cooler weather I wear more long sleeves and braces, plus I go with a little western style every now and again.

I'm a network analyst, which usually means sitting at a computer for the duration of my 13-hour shift. But at anytime I may be required to pull floor tiles, climb around on the floor, lift boxes off the loading dock, etc. so we're allowed to wear jeans or otherwise dirt-ready clothes. I'd be concerned wearing anything nice to the job.

Can dress as I please. And do it!
I am not that much into vintage, but I do wear a cravat/ascot ever so often. Which in many ways has become a sort of my personal trademark - along with my Irvin(Not in the summermonths though[huh] )
Besides that it's mostly jeans/chinos, a nice soft white cotton shirt and loafers. Pretty ordinary.

I'm a homemaker. I don't own any vintage clothes yet but I don't want to wear my better retro styles either while doing housework etc. I tend to go for a more youthful, practical, retro late 40s-early 60s look. I keep thinking of Swirls and shirtwaist dresses but then I'd want to take good care of them so even the Swirl's would only be worn on days where I know my tasks won't be too laborous. Hard wearing and functional are the keywords here. I wear vintage costume jewelry all the time though. I tend to go for matronly updos that are timeless, signal no fuss, no nonesense and were probably never trendy.lol I like that sort of image.

Well, I work at an animal hospital. I wear scrubs. They tend to get blood/bleach/vomit/urine/etc all over them, so I tend not to add any accessories. I used to wear full makeup to work everyday, and now I've even stopped that. Honestly, I have the most dress casual job in the world lol.

Because of my position, looking presentable and fashionable is way out of the question. I'd be an idiot to spend hours styling my hair when I'm just going to have a dog or cat go wild and knock it outta place when giving a nail trim or be soaked in stinky, dirty water when giving a bath. The receptionists at my work look MUCH neater and cuter than the rest of us. They get to wear jewelery and have cute little hair do's and full makeup and all. Lucky receptionists...

I am a Corrections Officer at a state prison (read "overpaid babysitter"). We have to wear hideous polyester "police" type uniforms to work and try to be professional.

I do, however, have one outlet. Every year we are mandated by the state to have training; firearms, self-defense, EEO, first-aid, etc. These days are not in uniform, so I get to wear my fedoras & khakis. Its the best I can do right now.

I'm a Safety Director for a large state psychiatric hospital, and usually dress in a three-piece suit (complete with fedora).

However, I will be RETIREING in THREE days :eusa_clap so my daily attire will change to bib overalls and work boots (I'm planning on working a lot around the house and in the garden).

I work at Macy's, where the dress code is black suits every day. I have a couple of vintage or vintage inspired suits that I wear, but usually (and unfortunately) I just throw on a cheap suit since I'm sweating and running around all day. It's become more of a uniform. I DO however, wear vintage ties every day.
