You ever had a pretty young lady sidle up to you and say your pipesmoke reminded her of her grandfather? I thought it was bad enough when I kept attracting girls with daddy issues.....!

I have been shocked by the sheer number of these young women. They are everywhere, and being a cigar/pipe smoker is like a magnet.

But it works the other way too. When I was about 25-30ish, I was overwhelmed with the 40-something divorcee crowd. We didn't use the term "cougar" then, but I guess that's what they call them now. I have to admit, I was more than happy to be the "eh...you'll do" guy.

It's a very female-heavy scene... and I know any number of women who would love to go dancing, but whose menfolk refuse. I'm not sure at what point in history it happened that dancing became "for girls", but it's definitely a thing

My wife reckons that it started at about the same time as the sixties explosion. In her words: "Women stopped dancing with their men and started dancing with their handbags instead." For security, the girls would put their bags on the dance floor, hence dancing with their handbags.

Certainly by the time I was at school in the eighties, the idea of partnered dancing was perceived as for 'old people' and weirdo hobbyists. It's not something I really saw much of at all until, probably, i got into the rockabilly scene and started to see social jivers around the place.

It certainly is for my wife. She loves to dance.

On a semi-related note, sometimes I'm glad I have a bad back and can no longer participate in some of the physical activities I performed in my younger days.
