Do you really ask every musician you meet what kind of music he likes? Or are you making an assumption, based on your association with "cowboys"???

I actually play many types of music, except, bizarrely, the ones you mentioned.......

Tell you what - beg or borrow a pair of, say, Loblan "cowboy" boots (NOT silly Goth pointy shoes!!) and see how many folks will think you've taken up the guitar or the drums!!

I didn't say they are "in fashion" as in what is currently walking down the runways of Milan & Paris.
I said "FOR fashion"...whether it is current or past.

Dwight is from Bakersfield, California... Those pointy toed boots are definitely for fashion.

The high tops of the boots were designed to protect one's legs from snakes and scrub vegetation while riding. The underslung heels were designed to keep one's feet in the stirrups. The pointed toe was designed to make it easy to insert the foot into the stirrups. Western boots are considered appropriate footwear in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona, but less so in New England states and the UK. Most everything that we wear is for fashion, although many things that we wear had their design origin with some kind of specific function in mind.

Right, walking was frowned upon by those cowboys cause the top ranch hands earned their pay in the saddle not on the ground. Ropers were invented by Justin working with rodeo cowboys because they had to leap off their horses, run down, throw & tie a steer. They are built on a shoe last & had a lower heel so they wouldn't turn their ankles when running. Pinched toed, high heeled boots are a fashion statement if you ain't in the saddle!

That statement would be correct, which is why my western boots come with more rounded toes and walking heels. I do prefer a heavy 40-50 penny bridge nail that has been flattened and bent for arch support, surrounded by lemon wood pegs.

These were made for me by an 80+ year old bootmaker, Felipe Ramirez, in Dallas, Texas just a few months before he died. They were made-to-measure specifically for my feet and fit like a glove.

Wearing that jacket - probably not too often since it will get all the attention. I'd wear leather boots/shoes or vintage looking sneakers. The jacket is so good that you have a lot of flexibility without looking incongruous.

Matching the jacket color probably only matters to the person doing the matching so do it if it makes you happy or if you need an excuse to but a new pair of boots. Matching a belt to the footwear is the only hard-fast matching rule I follow. I am of the opinion that since I own black boots and no black jacket I need to buy a black jacket so I weight these rules based on the circumstances.

Great quote. And very true, for the majority. Thanks for the kind words, and the tip on the belt. I feel there is more flexibility, as you noted, even for a belt with this jacket though, at least more than there would be with a black jacket. I've been wearing a natural cxl belt and it looks fine.
For the shoes or boots, I don't think I need an "exact match", but I do need an excuse to buy a new pair of boots. lol. I think I'll go brown-red over red-brown as I hope to ease my look away from red and back into the safer realm of brown.

For myself, I really don't care for the style. would consider a much less tapered, much more subtle version of the heel on an engineer boot, though. As to the original question, I have worn most pairs of shoes I own with leather at one time or another. Typically leather shoes or boots in a complimentary colour. I do possess a couple of pairs of Chuck Taylor style boots (not Converse since the Nike buyout), but those are onky for extremely hot weather, and I don't think I have worn them for a couple of years.

gtdean48, looks like you are in N Georgia between Atlanta and Chattanooga, my old stomping grounds. If you ever make it to DFW area, be sure to drop into M.L Leddy's large store in the Fort Worth Stockyards and have yourself measured for a pair of the best fitting and most comfortable boots that you will ever wear. They have a huge inventory, including hard to fit styles, including mine: 13AA. I have two pairs of their made-to-measure boots in brown and black smooth ostrich. I wore these today:

Thanks Coffee. I have been wearing western cowboy boots for many decades, and I have thus far not worn any brand quite as comfortable as M.L. Leddy boots. There is just enough curve to the arch from the steel shank to provide excellent support. Anyone in Fort Worth would find time well spent looking in their store in the Historic Fort Worth Stockyard District. M.L Leddy has another store in San Angelo where their boots are actually made.

I was there year before last with a bunch for the FedoraFest out of the Hats thread here on the Lounge.
I was in Leddy's & looked at some VERY nice boots. Unfortunately, I didn't get measured. Wish I'd known better.
They usually have a booth at the NRHA Futurity show in OKC. I'll be there at the end of the month & will check. Thanks for the tip.
Love the smooth ostrich = that is what my Lucchese's are. I have full quilled Ariats & another smooth Justin Super Roper.

I live in the Pacific Northwest where premium bootmakers abound......White's, WESCO, Nick's, etc...
What do most grown men wear up here? Tennis shoes/sneakers. They wear them with everything. There could be 6 inches of snow on the ground and colder than Kelsey's nuts and these men are wearing tennis shoes. Raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock and all you see are tennis shoes. Ninety degrees plus and they're wearing tennis shoes. Riding motorcycles with sneakers on their feet It doesn't matter what the weather is...tennis shoes. I don't get it.

Sneakers have their place obviously, but what drives a grown man to wear tennis shoes almost exclusively?
