Fletch, where do you get Bitter Lemon? I can't find it anywhere on the Left Coast, and haven't even in Florida where I first encountered the stuff. (I still have ten-year-old glass bottles on the shelf I'm rationing... )

heh..I guess your definition of the Left Coast leaves out California...where Bitter Lemon can be found in any BevMo..... ;)

I have unlimited access to fountain Coke at work, and take full advantage of it. But I'm also a fan of Orange Crush -- the best artificially-flavored-and-colored orange soad there is -- and of Polar Golden Ginger Ale. This latter is a New England-only brand, and is much stronger and tastier than the usual pale dry stuff. It's the only ginger ale out there that reminds me of the old Clicquot Club Golden we used to get when I was little.

At work we sell Maine Root Ginger Brew in bottles, which is even stronger and spicier -- too much so for me!

I stay away from all sodas. HOWEVER! Nothing beats a movie, hot buttered popcorn and a Dr. Pepper. For me, there's just something so cozy about that dark theatre and those snacks. (Not to be consumed until the movie starts, too!) Sadly, Dr. Pepper or other cherry colas aren't really sold in the movie houses here anymore, so I sneak in a bottled water.

Okay, NORTHERN Left Coast--bearing in mind that when I'm down there I'm usually traveling with relatives and just about the only drinker among 'em...

Next time, maybe... just have to lay down the condition that between the "Holier-than-Thou" grandmother or myself, one or the other is not going.

It is a good pain!

As I'm teetotal, I'm very interested in soft drinks. I was raised in a family with parents who drank copious amounts of water and iced tea; I don't make the iced tea, although I enjoy hot tea regularly, but I drink a lot of water.

I'm also very fond of several sodas. I especially like Reed's Extra Ginger Brew, or their regular and premium Ginger Brews. I also love Boylan's sodas, especially their root beer; they make a surprisingly good birch beer, but I think that my favorite is still Kutztown Bottling Company birch beer. Being half Pennsylvania Dutch and thoroughly southeastern Pennsylvania, I put a high premium upon a good birch beer. Hank's makes good root beer as well, although I don't care for their birch beer.

Grown Up Soda has a slightly silly name, but sells excellent drinks. They aren't as sweet as popular sodas and as a consequence have a dry, but flavorful taste. I'm especially fond of their Extra Dry Ginger Ale and Dry Meyer Lemon sodas.

Has anyone ever drunk Blenheim Ginger Beer? I have read enough about it to be intrigued, but it isn't sold anywhere nearby and at present it isn't sensible for me to order it.

Boylan's

I know a number of people have mentioned Boylan's Root Beer already, but i'd like to jump on the bandwagon. I just discovered a wonderful little cafe in town, and it's the first place i've seen Boylan's available around here. It is excellent! And now i'm curious to try the birch beer, among other flavors.

Bundaberg Ginger Beer - the best Ginger Beer in the world bar none! (and it's made right here in Queensland, Australia).

And then there's Scotland's national soft drink - Irn Bru

I saw some of this in a newsagents chiller last week after seeing your post, so I got a bottle and drank it on the way home. Felt good to actually drink from a glass bottle (this was screw-cap though), stayed nice and cool too.

Also has anyone ever tried Rose Lemonade?

Shweppes, Coke Crushed Ice, and Galco's

Ethan's got it right--Schweppe's gingerale is one of my favorites too. But the thing that makes me truly blissful is to find a place that still serves Coke over crushed ice (aka chipped ice, if you're on the East Coast). Bob's Big Boy in Burbank does a good one, and it's one of the few places in Los Angeles that still serves crushed ice.

Count me in as another vote for Galco's, as well. I love that place!

Great to hear from another fan. :) That way of serving coke sounds excellent. I am a fan of having a big glass and fill it to the top with ice, only cubes, and then pour in the coke. I discovered this when drinking Pepsicino. Lovely.

The big glass lots of ice works for many soft drinks. Out of the bottle the carbonation can be stiltafying , flavors over the top.

Pouring the soda allowing the ice to melt a bit shifts many sodas into a much better condition for drinking, especially if you're thirsty.

That beautiful sound of the cracking ice as you pour, ooh this making me thirsty! :)

The best every root beer is Chowning's Root Beer, which can only be purchased at Colonial Williamsburg. Other than that, the only soda I drink, on a very rare occasion, is Welch's Strawberry.

...(had?) a similar product here in Va, Northern Neck Ginger Ale. A family firm, alas finally sold to a major soft drink maker. You still see it, but I'm pretty sure it was bought to eventually take it off the market.

Cheerwine is my personal favorite. Neither the original recipe (which is made with pure cane sugar) nor the design of the bottle have changed in well over 50 years. Unfortunately, you can only get it in the Carolinas or Northern Georgia. Thank goodness I decided to go to school in the Upstate!
