I think the '1947' assessment they have made is way off:

Looking at that label, and the style of the jacket, I would say that 05/65 (i.e. May 1965) is a more likely date.

hard to tell what the numbers refer to. if 5/65 is the date what's 11/830 ?

i agree it looks later though, as in late 50s - mid 60s.

You guys are probably right. I never really looked at the photos since it's way too big for me, and just went with what the seller claimed.

The construction style, buttons, and lining materials look much older than 1965, but the jacket styling is extremely odd for a custom suit in '47. R. H. Childs, Esq. probably was a middle-aged gentleman who wanted a new suit constructed the same way his older suits were but not have the jacket stand out too much.

Yes, jacket has the sixties look whilst the high waist trousers hark back to his younger days.

P.S. The same vendor has another suit obviously made for the same man in the same style that is dated 1968.

I really like these suits. I might be tempted to bid. I'm not a massive fan of narrow lapels but I could wear the waistcoat and trousers with a linen summer jacket.
