I want a short slim fitting center zip chp type for my next jacket, I love deerskin, I dislike pointy collars, mostly wear my jackets open and my local weather is pretty mild year round.

- highway star looks great but not sure how long the body is and doing the side laces mod could be more risky than I can foresee.

- HtC would have cotton or cupro lining instead of the stock tweed but there’s a certain uncertainty about what I’ll get since they don’t work with deerskin on a regular basis, I’ve only seen one done previously and it looked pretty good but I’m considering olied wax black core hh instead.

- Lindbergh looks good, I like it even though it’s not a chp type and it’s just a bit longer than ideal, I like that it’s really thick deer looks great, has really nice grain and the collar shape is ok too, but it’s gonna be a bit tight on the shoulders, which being deerskin I don’t mind but the chest pocket might dig-in too much and poke outwards or look weird, it also has no waist adjustment so it might look a bit boxy at the hem or I might have to add some back waist cinch straps.

I'll toss a fourth option over to you here.

Langlitz will make you a straight-zip Columbia, so a very good CHP design (with or without padding). If you like lighter weight leather, it might be a perfect option, and you can adjust the collar, etc. Ideally go visit them, but it will be a while before you see it - made to measure. Here was the one I had, ultimately, I decide to go a different direction and sold this one to another FL member.

The Eastman jacket is cut very boxy from the pics I have seen, I believe it looks better on fuller people rather than slender individuals such as yourself.

The other two jackets I do not know.

Lost Worlds offers deerskin and I would spend my money there much rather than on all you listed.. so maybe look if any of their styles suits your needs.

Other than that Johnson Leathers also offers deerskin and can tailor a jacket on your body with whatever details in regard to collar etc you want.. and all that probably for less than any of these Japanese jackets.

Many thanks for this option, I don’t have any experience with langlitz but I checked them out and saw current wait times are around 12 months which is way too long for me, it would drive me crazy and kinda why I’d rather go stock and do alterations myself or try DH which currently has 45-60 days wait, I think I could stomach that much earlier especially ordering during summer.

Another big thanks here, I had forgotten LW has some really nice thick deerskin and a chp type model, I’m expecting a long wait time though which sadly mighty be a dealbreaker for me.

Johnson otoh might have tolerable wait times, gonna depend on leather options here I guess but it’s definitely a good alternative I hadn’t contemplated, thanks again.
Lost Worlds does not have long wait times, I don't know where you take that from. It was like 2 weeks from completing order to delivery for me very recently.

Your best course of action will very likely be ordering a jacket made as you prefer. Buying a jacket knowing you'll need to do a little open heart surgery on it once it arrives means your jacket will be pretty spendy when all is said and done... and it may never be all you'd hoped depending on the quality of the alteration work.

That term 'floater' is one I hear used in only one context. You PharmD?

1. Do not buy a jacket and start cutting. At least not at that price point.

2. As of last month DH was backlogged and had 6 month wait for custom (which is pretty standard).
