I am searching for any current information about the AP World War artist/correspondent Howell Dodd.

I am especially interested to find out in which books about World War II include his illustrations.

I have a large collection of his WW II original artwork but cannot find it reproduced in any books about World War II.

Howell Dodd

Let me know if anyone knows in what particular books about World War II, I can find illustrations by AP artist/correspondent Howel Dodd concerning his assignment in Europe during WWII. I have been through many books of WWII and find that they have photographs not drawn illustrations like the ones that Howell Dodd sent back for AP for the American newspapers. There is one volume that states that it includes all the artists that covered WWII but then Howell Dodd is not included.
Also, if Howell Dodd is still alive, where is he?

There's not much on Dodd today other than his pulp work in the 50s. I have very few examples of his work but I always liked this one, from the AP employee magazine in 1944:

And one of Dodd's hats, now in a private collection/museum in France:

Helen, PLEASE post the stuff you have, I’d love to see anything you have of his! I have based my re-enacting “war artist” impression off of Dodd, including re-creating all the markings of his gear.
I picked this up off eBay a month ago, a roto print of one of his drawings from Normandy. I was happy to finally have a good example of his field work:

One of the interesting things to do is go back and look at old newspapers from the past, but it costs. Normally you do this with microfilm readers and reals of film. Google has done us all a great service with the publishing of all the Life Magazines. But also the same thing for selective newspapers which have made their past copies available

United States
The Milwaukee Journal
The Milwaukee Sentinel
Lodi News
The Southeast Missourian
Pittsburgh Post -Gazette
Spokesman-Review

Here is one from the St. Petersburg Times

And here is another from the Times Daily

You can also examine and word search all the issues of Life Magazine through Google

Here is another source strickly for Wartime Publications

I just scored another original (1944 dated) AP wire photo of one of his drawings, of a V-1 bomb flying over France. Remember, the press had very limited info on these things at the time.
I need to throw it on the scanner, but here are the scans from the ePay listing, I have it with my other Dodd AP wire photo right now...

It's been a while but I just scored a couple of WW2 drawings of Dodd's, they're both AP news photos for newspaper reproduction. I can scan them and put them here if anyone wants to see them...
