It's one for conjecture really. All of the photos I found on a website about celebrity women wearing hats. The only one that I not only recognised but also knew the name of, was Marilyn. Of all the ladies pictured the last one has that, ooh-la-la that only comes from a hat wearer that truly loves a hat. She is, I have discovered, called: Alicia Keys. No, I have never heard of her either but what I have done, because photos like the one with her wearing that superb hat, are photoshopped beyond recognition, is to find a photo of her, sans make up.Do you suppose the last 2 hats (black and grey) are wool or felt? Do they have sweatbands? We find it hard to get felt blanks that will yield brims much over 4 inches on men's hats, who do you suppose makes these to get such wide brims? Is there a milliner noted for this type of women's hat?
I can see 17th century artists making an icon of her. The photo doesn't answer your question but it does make you think: "What was it about the hat's sweatband?" Implying that she's such a distraction, you have forgotten your original question.
