These are very nice jackets for the buy-in I don not get why buyers are not jumping in I took my Wards bent off the classifies due to lack of interest and am enjoying wearing it

Jon, the greater point you make here is something I think MAY make an interesting thread at some point (that point being, when I have time to start it Lol). I think Terry would have a wealth of opinion/knowledge on the subject. The topic would be something like, "The history, quality, and perceived value of AMERICAN DEPARTMENT STORE JACKETS circa 30s to 60s".

People know Hercules (Sears) and many know Windward (Montgomery Ward) and SportsClad (Pennys) but in the grand era of American Department stores before they began to really go under and/or consolidate, there were other smaller stores as well. In the earlier days, these stores had existing jacket makers make their leather jackets (think Appalachian for example). The point being that folks undervalue a lot of these "Department Store Jackets" almost like they treat them like the dreaded modern day "Mall Jackets" when a lot of these jackets are actually pretty damn nice (particularly the earlier ones) and potentially made by jackets people would pay more money for if they were labeled by the actual maker.

I have 3 really cool Brent Jackets and I also have a couple of Windwards and the quality is comparable. In fact, one of the Brents seems thicker and better made than some Windwards I have had. But the name recognition of Windward and the fact that Repro companies actually replicate Windwards and not Brents seems to render Brents as unworthy of being sought after or respected much.

I am 100% in agreement I just did not take the time to elaborate the point. My brent's hide is to my feel, identical to my Hercules of the same design and era that is labeled horsehide sells in the $300 range

Reads like a thesis statement! This may be the very question I've sought to answer. I have a current inventory of 80 jackets spanning the 30s-60s. I've handled another 175 of various makes and models. I downloaded all the Sears Catalog outerwear for 1927-1965. Others here have done research and made discoveries.

with the jackets I have now I could walk through the years. They make interesting transitions typically at the decade mark.

I have many insights into quality of different brands through the years.

Anyway, yes. I've been moving to get my thoughts, theories out there. We can learn together.

What sells and doesn't is an interesting question.

I'm going to work on an outline use a research/thesis approach
