The problem is that, for the past 30 years or so, dark blue suits have had a sleep-inducing tint to them.

Look at the dark blues of the golden era (below), and you'll see how uninteresting today's offerings are.

Oh, man...I think I just had a vintage-gasm. If only I could find a suit like that in my size (40R).

The gorge appears to be higher on the second tone-on-tone wide stripe.
Was this more based on the designer/company/tailor or was there a fashion for higher gorge in the 30's and then gradually lowered through the 40's?

Just observing, Marc. Just observing. I was just noticing because the gorge on many "fashionable" suits right now are ridiculously high. The angle on the peaks seem to becoming even more acute, too.
