Anyone have experience with Aero rollneck sweaters? I'm trying to decide between their RAF Comforts and RN Submariner ecru coloured sweaters. Both look nice.

I meant to reply to this a while back. I have the RN Submariner already although it was supplied by Silverman's. I am interested by the Comforts and also very much by the Paratroopers Heavy Duty Roll Neck because I have a large collection of sweaters with militarist associations and am always pleased to add more. ...

I actually managed to try both the Submariner and Comforts just a while ago. Fit between them is similar except Comforts has a bit longer sleeves and a bit shorter total length. Both were nice, especially the Comforts was very, well, comfy. But I decided that I think I want the Paratrooper Heavy Duty Roll Neck, the olive colour seems good option for me.

I will also try the North Sea Clothing Submariner in Ecru soon.

I have had a succession of Submariner ecru sweaters since my teenaged years. One of them had belonged to a Submariner and even when washed smelled of pipe tobacco and stale farts. My present one was supplied by Silverman’s. I also have the Navy roll neck Woolly Pully supplied by Outdoor Knitwear. At my request they added shoulder straps and a pen pocket. As I have mentioned on other threads, I am a great fan of the crew neck Woolly Pully: I’m wearing the Navy version as I write this but I have a large collection in all the available colours!
The Paratrooper Aero roll neck looks just right for me and I think I shall order it.
You are obviously as keen on military sweaters as I am!

You seem to have lots of experience with these kind of sweaters then :) That's pretty cool!
And yeah, I'm really interested in getting a Submariner or RAF sweater with details that the original sweaters had in the 40's. If you order the Aero Paratrooper roll neck, please give us a review here! Although I might order one myself very soon and if I do, I will review it here.

Just love those Pick & Sons versions - having owned many of them and other manufacturers over the years. I have one that is a Size 2 mislabeled, is actually a size 3. Just the time of year to wear them too; seem to be perfectly suited to our English brand of damp and cold weather. Also saw a chap on Ebay selling them today, if anyone here interested; they're hard to find these days. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A-Mens-V...147252?hash=item3fd22da874:g:2jgAAOSws11d1~Fg

I am loving the cold weather because of the opportunity to wear military sweaters again - and because it's my favourite time of year anyway by far. ... My current sub sweater/RAF roll neck must now be around 15 years old and was bought from Silverman's, Mile End Road. It was made by a precursor to Outdoor Knitwear as its label reads 'The Woolly Pully Company' - presumably a division of T.W. Kempton.

I bought a few of mine from Silverman's in the early 90s, were all Pick & Co though. Funny story, but I bought a long used one labelled Woolly Pully that was just too large; when I went to sell it 3rd hand on eBay I got a the following from a well known outdoor knitwear company "Listing policy violation alert: Trademark Violation - Unauthorized Listing Content". They were quite irrational and weren't prepared to back down and although I'd spent a lot with them, the upshot is I no longer buy from them now; pity really, sometimes their knits are quite good (bar that strange submarine sweater) and they've got better with the quality. Your post does confirm I was right too.

That all sounds a bit strange?

I came across an old film yesterday, "The Land That Time Forgot" based in 1914-1918 and that featured a lot of men wearing these types of Sub Roll Necks.

Title sounds topical now that we’re ‘all alone in Brexitland’ as Marc Almond almost sang!
More seriously, how did you come across this film - is it online or did you watch it on television?

I just happened to turn the TV on to watch something else and it was on the channel that came up 1st. "Talking Pictures TV" on Freeview Channel 81. I looked it up on the Internet and there seems to have been several versions of this film. The one I saw, I think was the 1974/75 edition. I am sure it will come up again or that you can get it on the Internet or dvd etc. Seems it is to do with UK & German sailors/submariners who joined forces when they were stranded on a desolate Island with strange threatening creatures etc.

Been awhile since I was on here; to answer your question, it was extremely strange. I thought it was a hoax really, one designed to click through to some abitrary site, but no, was a genuine complaint from the guy - they had been offering me discounts to buy from them too, but weren't prepared to back down. At least now I know I was in the right all along.

Very nice!!!
As you might know if you have followed this thread, I already have a ridiculous number of military related wool sweaters. However - I am interested in adding this one so please could you remind me of the website address?
