White Hat maintenance

I've been trying to plan out the 2 or 3 (if I'm lucky) hat purchases I'll make in the spring months and I came across the perennial white fur felt hats Biltmore puts out.

At the store in Champaign I bought my Biltmore snap-brim, they did a brisk business with these to a largely urban clientele. I have this fascination with them, that I'd almost consider buying one. Not that it's a must have or I'm even sure how often I'd wear it.

How difficult is it to keep this color hat looking pristine? Or is it just a pipe dream best left to snazzy dance routines on stage?

Use it, wear it....it will develop its own patina over time. Keep it away from dirty things and food etc. Good choice!

A white, particularly winter white, fedora can be a great hat. However, it must be treated with care, brushed after wearing, and stored within it's box.

Never handle it with even slightly solied hands.

Never, ever set it on a table meant for dining.

Never let another human being touch it.

Never wear it in threatening or inclement weather.

Never look at it sideways.

Never wear it to a dining establishment, an amusement park, the theatre, or a sporting event/venue.

Never speak harshly in it's presence.

It is a versatile color. Wear it in health.

I just got a bone colored Stetson. I wore it Tuesday night to a school music program. When this thread started I went and got the hat. Sure enough, I had two smudges on the under side of the brim. I was being very careful, but it happened. Four or five strokes with a orange sponge and it was clean again. I love the color though.

bad timing on this one...keep bumping into photos of Art's Mojave Fedora- with the dark red ribbon; and LUST after it. So far, have kept arms' distance from checkbook, but jeez, it's really nice lookin', and I'm not too much of a
slob (except when awake), and in my cosmopolitan setting the hat would be almost necessary...[huh]

I have Art making me a new featherweight hat in off-white, basically a cream color. I know it will be tricky to keep it clean, but I just couldn't resist. I'll post pictures when I get it. Then I'll probably be back here looking for advice on how to remove smudges etc.:)
