Which leather for Aero Barnstormer

I decided that I ”need” a new barnstormer for next winter.

I just can’t decide on leather. I love the look of CMX leathers but I wouldn’t want to go through the brake in period.

Does anyone here have a Barnstormer in Vicenza or any other Aero’s midweight hide? Are they substantial enough for this jacket style?

What about one of the tumbled or battered HH's? A barnstormer in vic seems counter-intuitive to me. Especially if you're going for the mouton/ shawl collared version.

I thought about battered seal hh, but isn’t that midweight hide aswell?

I have a Mulligan in tumbled fqhh and that was initially much stiffer and harder to brake in than some regular fqhh, so that experience kind of makes me hesitant to consider tumbled hh.

If I would go with CMX, I think my choice would be brown steer, as I don’t yet have any Aero’s jackets made of steer.

Steerhide would be nice!

I have one in steer, had it around 15 years maybe more. Superb jacket, I often tuck the pocket flaps inside and loop the belt around the back.
Not the greatest pics but taken on a low res camera or phone around 6 years ago.

With a heavier leather, I’d be worried about not buttoning it. Just trying to unbutton the cuffs on my cxl jackets is a real chore. Can’t imagine going through that every time I need to close or open the jacket.
Considering the barnstormer myself. But my thinking now is that I’ll go for one of the midweights, either jerky or Vicenza.

Ok. I dropped the idea of middle weight leathers.

Decision is now between steer / fqhh / tumbled fqhh.

I love fqhh so it would be easy to go with that, but I’ve heard so many positive testimonies of steer that I’m kinda curious to try that.

I am also torn between brown/black/cordovan.

Brown is always a sure winner in my books, but a black is a classic colour for a barnstormer and also Cordovan looks so damn good.

Decisions, decisions...

A brown Barnstormer in CMXL would also be a thing of beauty, but those buttons on the Barnstormer would be too much of a chore for me. Plus the belt. Just too much work to put on and take off.

Funny, considering your username! [emoji3]

What would you say about midnight blue barnstormer?

I have swatch of this hide, but it looks just plain black to me. I wonder how it would look as a coat?

That's a hide I am very interested in.
Did you look at the hide in different lighting conditions?
It should give up some shades of green is I am not mistaking, or look kind of like petrol

Yes, I tried to look at it under different light. I tried to twist it and scrub it, but all I see is black.

A cxl barnstirner would look great, and if you wore it every day for a few seasons it might start to wear great too. But you don't strike me a one coat kinda guy Jelupe! That said, even with a ton of wear on it'd still be far too heavy for my liking, irrespective of how much it softened.
