The 1970s, no doubt about it. Men in cuban heels, looking back it's enough to make you cry. And just remember Lawrence Welk in a suit with lapels that would have enough material to make a whole suit today. It's too horrible to even contemplate. Sorry I posted this. I may end up having bad dreams.

Some of the early-'70s cars were still stylish, like the Buick Riviera and the Chevrolet Monte Carlo...

The '71 to '74 Boattailed Riviera was a gorgeous looking car. An over the top one, depending on one's perspective, was the AMC Matador coupe with the Barcelona interior.

Seriously? Those are the exceptions not the rule.
Just look at anything AMC made during that time. :eusa_doh: Naming a car after a Gremlin made sense for that crap. I won't even mention the "blow yourself to kingdom come" Pinto, the ugly Maverick, the 1974 and up through the decade Mustangs, The ugly Mercurys of the time, the ugly Montegos and a host of others whose names elude me due to unspeakable ugliness. :eusa_doh:

Those Cadillacs were certainly no prize either. Although it was the largest production car engine at a massive 500 cubic inches and they have a huge following---not to mention they are worth more than all of the cars I mentioned previously---put together.
The deVilles----now there was an ugly Cadillac in the 1970s.

Yeah, long and ugly. My parents had one of these:

The biggest hunk of crap made. It leaked like a sieve. The technicians could never figure it out after numerous dealership visits. Finally my father, who was head of an automotive shop took a day off of work to see what kind of idiots they had working there.
Well, he found out BIG ones. They guy had the car running up 10 feet in the air with ten mirrors around the motor but still couldn't SEE oil running down both sides of the block!:eusa_doh: The fools at the factory forgot to torque down the heads; so it was leaking right out of the cracks.:rage: The hunk of crap could have blown up while my mother was driving it.
The "discussion" at the dealership after such a revelation is not exactly for general audiences. I think the roof on the dealership was raised a good amount for a while though.
Workmanship in the 1970s was really, really bad. It makes sense that style followed right behind it.

Oh, I did and do. IMO, all of the '70s were the worst for 20th century menswear. Second worst was some of the '60s, third place goes to some of the '80s, and dishonorable mention goes to parts of 1910-'20.


The problem with this thread is that it has become stale and redundant. It's just repeating what has been said in the older "I Hate the '70s" thread.
