Greetings,

I am used to buying Stafford brand dress shirts at JC Penney. I find them to be an incredible value. However I recently lost a lot of weight and have had trouble finding the right fit for my body at JC Penney. I would like to own maybe 5 or 6 NICE FITTING dress shirts. Do I go to my local Macys or Brooks Brothers ?

Can anyone lead me in the right direction ?

I don't want custom made if I can help it. The JC Penney Stafford were great but maybe not for me anymore ?

I've never had trouble with dress shirts before :)

Thanks

Congrats on the big loss.
My experience with such things is it’s all trial and error. What once worked for you no longer does. What works for me may not for you. I’m afraid you’ll need to go out and buy 5 shirts and see which one works best.

Congrats on the weight loss. This is a good kind of problem to have. :)

I would suggest going to a local men's shop or tailor and get your measurements taken. A lot of online retailers will allow you to use this information, along with your height/weight and fit preference to make recommendations. Some even offer a feature where you take a selfie with your cell phone and it runs it through an algorithm to make product suggestions.

On the whole Brooks Brothers have been known to run a bit more on the boxy side, so this may not be the best option for you. I purchased several shirts from Twillory a few years back and have been pleased with them. They're a step up from Stafford, but along the same vein provided good value for money at the time. (Disclaimer: not sure if this still holds true as I haven't been to their site recently.) I had also considered Kamakura but my personal measurements didn't match well with their product lines (it's a Japanese brand). I fell in between sizes and I didn't want to compromise on one dimension for another. Had there been an option I likely would have gone with them instead.

As @Bfd70 said, a lot of it is trial and error. The good news is that there are so many options out there you should be able to find what is right for you. The biggest investment will probably be the time involved, so just be patient with the process.
