You really think walking up to someone out of the blue works? I always feel like there's an invisible wall between people. I turn to try to walk around it because surely it must end somewhere but I come upon a hard fast corner and then another wall... and another and maddeningly yet still another! I realize I am completely surrounded by invisible walls and they are slowly moving inward... towards me! I attempt to call out but my throat has forsaken me! Whyyy why!?!?!??!

Seriously though museums are good as a win/win option. No spark struck, atleast a walk through a reconstructed ancient Egyptian temple is inspiring :)

When in doubt, say something ridiculously stupid. It always worked for me, back in the day.

You see someone interesting and attractive in front of a Veronese, stand next to her, and say, "I could do better." If she laughs, you have your in. If she doesn't, believe me, it's an out.

Well ok, so maybe not air museums... I'll vouch for historical museums though. And libraries. And bookstores. Really now I'm just listing place I like in hopes a handsome available gent will be haunting one of them too!
Too bad there's a mountain range, a lack of mobility and the Looks Barrier (I may style myself as Mini-MacArthur, but I'm built like a pint-size Patton only twice as uglylol) in the way:( ... along with a specific keying on "military" rather than "general" history. I'm always looking for a good bookstore, though, especially one with a decent Transportation (specifically Rail) or WWII section.;)

Let's see: museums, the library, bookstores, miniatures dealers building up my collection of teaching-tools for when I go for my history professorship, out on the pistol-range honing my skill in defending myself and those around me... (Sorry, that particular function is an integral part of, even the key to, who I am... On the upside, it means no harm's gonna come to ya on my watch if I got anything to say about it. Which is a good thing, right?) Any of you ladies into WWII or Civil War reenacting?;)

Haha... funny you mention WWII reenacting-- I've been trying to find a group in my part of the world, and when I finally found one, I had one of the Nazi's start hitting on me. A lot. To the point where I could no longer be flattered, just kinda creeped out by the whole thing.
The search for another 40's reenactment group continues... [huh]

I can relate, Miss Ritz--almost everything reenacting is Europe, and my studies and styling isn't just the least-reenacted theater (Pacific) but a single specific general officer, and since even with the specific focus on Mac no group would have me go straight to five-stars or even bird-colonel even if there was no authority involved and I was just "battlefield eye-candy"...

Guess I shoulda warned y'all I'm a chronic and shameless flirt. Sorry, just can't help myself...

I second the vintage stores...

and big antique shows, flea markets...offer to carry that bulky thing she just bought...

I was one of those single shop girls in a vintage store, and that's where I met Sr. 1929!
Be friendly and polite and don't forget to smile, and if you have a sincere compliment to tell her, even better. It can't hurt and may make her day!

I have the same problem with the reenactment thing...there arn't any groups in my area that I know of. There are some special events at historic sites with Civil War reenactment, but the groups come from out of state I believe.

And Diamondback...I'm in all those places too! I'm a Cultural and Historic Preservation major, so I live my life in the library, museums and historic places. People are probably afraid to approach me, as I'm normally sitting there with about 10 books open, pulling my hair out because I can't find what the original floor was in a closet in a historic building or something like that. lol

Not so much the gun range though...I've only shot a pellet gun at a coke can...and I missed:eek:

Come to think of it, I met a lot of interesting people at coffee shops, but that's when I was in grad school and spent a lot of time at them, scribbling in books and drinking massive iced coffees.

im in Europe so there are lots or living history groups i can get involved in...its money at the moment thats holding me back!![huh] [huh]

Thanks for the links, Ms. Bella--of the few PTO units I've seen, none are around Seattle and most IIRC are depicting Marines, which makes them "under Nimitz" and thus have no use for a "MacArthur". (Reason for this specialty: I've been tearing the General's mind apart for over five years as part of my planned Masters thesis, and even though it means bias he's had a very strong influence on me, to the point that I'm not sure whether what personality I have is truly my own or just having assimilated his... )

And each drink removes a few bricks from that wall... You may do something you´ll regret, but you´ll have so much fun.
