Obviously the number of guns isn't the only factor, as I mentioned. A lot of it has to do with how the children were raised. However, I do have to ask, just for my own curiosity--Other than the collector items, why do you have so many guns? I'm not trying to be disrespectful in any way--I really am just curious. My mother has one handgun that she keeps for protection, but we've never had any others in our house, so I'm not too familiar with what else they would be used for.
I collect guns, just like some people collect shoes. Really, just how many pair of shoes does one need when you can only wear one pair at a time.......
In fact I make a living from guns, have for years.

I'm thinking more about apathy and illiteracy and a lack of respect for anything but money.
All stemming from piss-poor parenting brought about by materialistic greed and selfishness.

People spend time they don't really have working jobs they don't like to earn money that isn't enough to buy things they don't need for children who don't appreciate these things and honestly would be better off spending time with their parents anyways. We're still figuring out how to deal with the Industrial Revolution to this day.

My thoughts exactly. I am NOT allowing this behavior to happen in MY FAMILY. We sacrifice monetary gain so my wife can stay home and BE A MOTHER. Daycare dumpers disgust me. I fail to see why anybody bothers to have children if they are just going to dump them at the first chance to have strangers raise them just so they can go earn a few extra $ to keep them in an unnecessary lifestyle.

Humanity has always had evil, sick twisted people. Serial killers have always existed, animal abusers have always existed.

And pre 1940 or so....most of the sick and demented individuals parents, well one worked, one worked at home. And they -still- turned out to be that way.

All of this is not a new problem.

The only -new- thing...is that we hear about the events that take place in places other then -our- small towns or corners of the world. This is the gift of the Media and the Internet etc. To hear about the inhumanities that we were once blissfully unaware of, until they came to -our- towns and lives.

Humans are inhumane. End of story.

"Sacrafice monetary gain" is all very noble right up until you can't buy groceries.

There are a lot of people who would rather buy large diameter wheels for their leased SUVS, while they watch their large cross section LCD/Plasma TVs before they would buy healthy food for their children. Wife used to be in social work back in the day. You wouldn't believe the stories she could tell.

A little rational perspective please.
Let us stop deluding ourselves into thinking two working parents and daycare is leading to the downfall of civilization. Most households have two working parents to make ends meet, not to have plenty of "funny money" for champagne and caviar breakfast.

Before we go judging why two parents work or why children are in daycare let us consider our audience. I am sure there are plenty of Lounge members with two working parent families and children in daycare.

Oh and plenty of criminals come from families with stay at home moms.
I wish we would drop the "good old days" rhetoric.

I agree...........there's isn't more meaness in the world, we simply hear more about it due to increased media coverage and lack of secrecy. Cruelty and perversion have always been with us, but used to be kept secret by the victims and the perpetrators...........now it's covered on the nightly news and talked about on chat boards and bragged about on blogs..............and of course the more exposure these horrendous acts get the more it puts ideas into already disturbed brains and they try to outdo each other............it's the old domino effect...........

I'm not advocating returning to the world of yesteryear and hiding all things negative under the outhouse...........but.....the less sensationalism given, the less likely cruel actions will be duplicated out of boredom and just for attention.

As for me, I agree with the "back of the woodshed" method of punishment........but then I'm an old crone and definitely believe in accountability and punishment.........course in Texas we have and utilize the death penalty.................LOL.........

And there are a lot of people I've known where staying home with the kids was not an option. I'm just saying that you can be a good mother and work. I think the hardest working mother I ever saw had two kids, worked full time, and went to school. Did she get to spend as much time with her kids as she wanted? No. Was she imparting values to them? Oh hell yes.

That's all I'm saying. There's all kinds of really cruddy parents, and a variety of good ones, too.

I'll second that.

I think this is horrible not only because they're pointlessly killing animals, they're also taking away from those farmers income.

I guess I never thought about having different guns for different outfits :D

No, I know this is a serious topic.

I know that children in a home with guns should be taught how to use them and also how to respect them.

I hope that I can teach my son as he grows up to be empathetic. Only by doing so would he learn how his actions can have an effect on others. I know that those teenagers or whoever they were, never thought about the farmers who they were basically stealing money from. Just like someone who is robbed, there is an emotional as well as financial hurt involved. I guess I also don't know how someone can deliberately cause prolonged pain and suffering to another creature for no reason.

Where did those parents learn it? From their parents? If so, then this is the way things have always been.

I think there's been a huge cultural change since Vietnam. I'm not sure what it was, but I'm pretty sure it happened.
