Hi Dinerman,

I don't clearly understand your above statement, it is open to some interpretation...

Referring to the term "agonize", do you mean to say that ...people here... are "unhappy" or "complain about" (their) creases not being "perfectly smooth and symmetrical"?
Paul

I guess my interpretation of his comment would be that newbies (like me) worry about things like: does this look right ("right" is rather subjective), does this crease fit my face the best or should I try another one, did I just hurt the hat by making the brim do that, does this crease look just like the one in the ad, etc

Dinerman can clarify his comment but I know those are the kinds of things I agonized over. And just like the use of the word "right," "agonize" as used here is subjective as well. I am not literally feeling agony. ;)

Thanks very much, rrog - I get your point. Arghh...I might agonize about my nose being slanted to one side, about... ok guys, gotta admit it, I spend time in front of the mirror. Try to get everything right (at times; not usually at 05:45 in the morning, though) but yes, ...what's that called?... narcisism?

I do suppose we wouldn't have a hat forum if we didn't care about how we look...

Greetings to America

... The biggest reason I sold my Akubra Casual and Akubra Traveler, both from their line of crushable pliofelts, was because I couldn't get out the perfectly symmetrical machine-pressed look. It's no fault of the hats; that's just how they're made.
Hmmm...am thinking of pulling the trigger on a Akubra Casual. Was also considering the Traveller but thinking I won't care fot the 3" brim.

I had a Sydney where I bashed a telescope/diamond in it (ya can kind of see it in my avatar). I like that look and now am wondering about the Casual being able to pull that off and hold it. Should I be?

What type of bash/crease serves it (Casual) best?

Regret all the questions gentlemen, but I take my lids seriously (as I would guess we all do since we are at this watering hold) and want to choose wisely. Thank you for your respective indulgence...

The Casual is from Akubra's line of crushable hats due to their "pliofelt" construction, which is a felt that's exceptionally resistant to reshaping while still not being stiff. I don't think anybody would have much luck reshaping any hats made of it, but you could try.
