This is mine set up for an article I wrote, I don't smoke-but wanted to use the ashtray! I had to light a Camel cigarette and god it smelled vile!

I really love the pictures of everyone's vanity tables. I enjoy seeing how unique everyone's is. It makes me want to work on mine. I recently was given a white desk from a friend and am using it as my vanity table. Unfortunately I haven't had a whole lot of time to personalize it. Right now it has a big wood framed mirror on it, make up brushes, some hair stuff (brush, comb, spray all modern) and bellydancing CDs, DVDs, and books. It has one drawer which has my face makeup (foundation, powder, blusher) and my eyelashes in it. Below that is a shelf with a makeup bag full of nothing but lipstick and gloss (I have a lot). On the floor below that is a leopard box with clear lip glosses and a silver one with eye makeup. One the area around it is a little more presentable, I'll take pictures. :D

Oh how much fun is this? I'm so enjoying seeing everyone's vanities, but it makes me realise just how bereft of serious vintage accouterments mine is. The vanity itself was rescued form Ebay for $40. It belonged to a little girl and was painted in pink glitter, but I just loved the shape. I'm sure it was once a stunning timber, but for now I have painted it in a gloss black enamel and added cut crystal handles. I painted the rest of my bedroom furniture to match too. Because it is black it really shows up the dust so I try to keep the top as clear as possible to allow for a quick daily dust. I do my makeup in the bathroom as I have far too much of the stuff to be housed here, and keep the vanity for accessorizing. There is also a little stool, (more retro late 50's) that goes with it, and I am recovering it from pink and fluffy into a black faux mink fur.

The counter houses my jewelry boxes that are full of both modern and vintage jewelry as well as loads of hair flowers and the like. It is also home to my little Hula girl I was given when I was 7, some silk flowers (I like to spend my money on things that don't die) and the hairspray for that last spritz before walking out the door. There is also a cute little pin up girl ashtray, and given I don't smoke, I use this to collect my most frequently worn jewelry when I am too lazy to put it away at night. To the side I'm using an Ikea jewelry stand as my hat tree. I have so many hats that they generally live in boxes in the wardrobe and those that are in present rotation live on the tree. There is also a beautiful lizard skin vintage bag and a pair of gloves, both for ambiance and to remind me to wear gloves to protect my hands from the sun. The rest of the glove collection have their own drawer in the vanity.

And that's it for now. I am coveting a proper vintage powder compact and a swans down puff to add to the list as well.

Here's my vanity. My gramma's parents bought it for her somewhere in the mid to late 30's, then it was my mom and aunt's while they were teens and now its mine. I have the matching dresser as well. The only reason it is this tidy at the moment is because my parents were here visiting recently! As you can tell by the bracelets and pins and such laying about, I need a larger jewelry box.

This is my vanity. I keep all my hair stuff, perfume, and some makeup & jewelry on top, and my gloves, handkerchiefs, stockings and purses in the drawers. Only thing is, now it's in my baby daughter's room (hence the pink on the walls and crib in the foreground) and I will have to put all the breakable stuff away soon! But I hope once she gets older she'll appreciate all this stuff. The vanity is part of a bedroom suite which she will inherit, so she'd better like it! :)

It will be here tomorrow. I know it's technically a dresser but its main function will be to hold all my girl things, makeup, rollers, hair setter, lotions and potions.
I also could never sit still doing my makeup, I am always stepping back and inspecting. Fairly sure I am going to repaint it. Just haven't decided which color. It will be in "my room" which is an office/studio/moms only space. Which will have yellow walls, a pink chair...that sort of thing...:)

I love this thread :D thanks everyone for sharing!

My vanity is perhaps more antique than vintage, I estimate anywhere from 1900 to 1920, perhaps older, difficult to say since it is a bit "folkish" style, quite simple, but anyway... it has very limited space for storage so I only keep makeup and hair accesories in/on it.

I got it locally through Ebay, it is oak and was in not-so-perfect condition. I cleaned it, waxed it, and lacquered it (mattine wax-lacquer). The mirror is quite small and the drawers are tiny. It has a shelf with some space underneath so I made some cardboard drawers and lined them with calligraphy paper. This is the only picture I have online at the moment, just after restoring it:

10.jpg

It is much more cluttered now! it is placed in the living room (I think it is pretty enough even with all my stuff on top of it), now between two windows to give me good light.
I store makeup and everything necessary for makeup application on it and its drawers: brushes, a mirror I can place nearby my face, makeup itself and primers, and hair accesories: combs, hairpins, hairsticks, flowers. I comb my hair when it is wet so I do not have any brushes (do not use even) or combs on it. My creams are also in the bathroom.
I store alll the stuff in the drawers or on little baskets. Some pretty Bésame makeup has the privilege to lay on the top shelf :) My MAC palettes do not fit in any drawer, unfortunately, so I have to put them besides a drawer, even though I would rather hide them. I'll try and take a current picture.

The chair is one of the two art deco chairs I found thrown away in the street in Brussels (!). They need restoration, but one of them is still useable and is the one I use. The other one is taken apart and I am working on it... it is gonna take me a while lol this picture shows the pretty roses engraving and this one the top I am gilding. I am planning to upholster them with red silk :D

My vanity was more decorative at one point, but when you have two nosy cats who love to look at themselves its better to keep the vanity clear. [huh]

This is usually squared away in the drawers because of the naughty kitties.

Mine has no interest in mirrors at all, I don't know why.
nice to see you, DD...

My cats love the way they look especially my white cat that has blue eyes, but I can see why hes in love with himself. He alway stares in the mirror on my vanity, its a routine almost.
