IMO there is no way to nail this situation down perfectly. There's way too many different levels of knowledge in the FL community. The poster might be looking for a very generalized opinion of there jacket....is it too big or too small on me or does it look good or not... period. They don't know about or care about a seam on the back of the jacket that is slightly off or a pocket that is 1/4" to high or low. Another poster might want a more critical opinion on specific parts of the jacket...does this type of collar look correct or is the sleeve length rite or whatever. Maybe the poster should say a little bit about want they want from the get go, instead of throwing a picture of there beloved jacket out in the world for all to pick apart. The responses are all over the place too. Some people always say the jacket looks good no matter what. Others start off saying it looks good only to change there opinion later on to NO good...and then come back a third time and say " after REALLY looking at it" it looks good again ( what the point of this is...I DON'T KNOW!!). In the end I think the opinions should be very basic unless something is very obvious like one sleeve is longer that the other or something. PMing someone that you feel knows there stuff would be what I would do if I wanted a thorough and detailed work-up! Just my 2 cents.......but then again i'm a little nutty......

I'd also want to say one thing about fit. What I've learned is that sometimes a jacket looks great in a photo but is very restrictive and not very comfy for the wearer.

I just wanted to say that there's a dimension of fit, I'd call it "feel", that is hard, if not impossible to capture in photos.

To me, this dimension got more important than the "look" dimension lately. I believe that if it's comfy, I'm gonna wear it more and it'll look great quickly. I also love when people look like they enjoy what they're wearing, how they're wearing it, and you see that best in motion.

Don't get me wrong, by that I don't mean oversized or baggy looks (which I like, but not in leather jackets - skateboarding socialised me in the 90s) But those really tight jackets, especially in heavy HH are not my cup o' tea. It depends on the leather of course.

This is very true. I loved the way my cafe racer looked but I damn near could've taken a blood pressure reading it was so tight in the arms. I definitely have a hard time commenting adversely on fit. It's such a personal preference and I don't think the way I like my jackets to fit is the only way they can or should. If there's an obvious flaw in the construction that's a different story. Bringing that to the owners attention at least gives them the option to care about it or not.

I've bought the same designs and had them fit the same way (1" below) only to sell them 'cause I feel like a matador. I know that for me to feel that it's long enough I need it 2" below the buckle.
Otherwise I feel that I look like a fool.

I think this is a good point, and that's why this board is a "conversation" not a lecture. Some might say "that's a little long for my taste" and the OP then responds that it's exactly how he wanted it. I've found, to HD's point, that when I'm not feeling it with a jacket that's been posted, I will often find something to compliment, such as the color, or a certain aspect of the jacket, and then swallow any criticism that I might have, especially if it's clear that the OP is thrilled with the result.

the internet has forever changed "public" discourse... the sense of anonymity has coarsened communication to a degree where it is now acceptable to make statements that you would not dare make in the real world... I like this place because you chaps tend to be polite and reasonable compared to some of the forums I visit... I would hope that we could provide members feedback in a respectful way...

personally, I happen to have a very thick skin... if you looked like me, you would either develop one or never be seen in public. so critiquing my choice in clothing or getting butthurt because the cut of my jibe are among the least of my concerns... either in the virtual world or reality...

As a recovering WIS I know OCD with watches, now I don't obsess over them but I'm not beyond receiving fit advice. On another message board a guy with a 6.25 inch wrist posts a picture of a 45mm Planet Ocean on his wrist and asks if it's too big. I will tell him it is way too big for him, the lugs are overhanging his wrists and it makes his wrist look like a child's. Most of the time it devolves into hurt feelings, but they asked, I gave my opinion. I don't do it maliciously and I'm not quite as frank as I just posted, but a guy with a tiny wrist simply looks ridiculous with a huge watch, it is what it is, it's better he know than waste more money.

If I asked for fit advice here and my jacket looked ridiculous I would appreciate if people shot me straight. Better to be bummed about a purchase, flip it, take the loss and get something that works and looks good.

I have 6.5" wrists and hunted high and low for my mid-size (37mm) Omega. I'm happy I did! 39mm is too big for me. 45?!? Aye-yi-yi....
