Clinch engineer boots have never been priced at £400. Clutch cafe had/has them at ~£1,600.

Marc Zuckerberg did something along these lines to preserve his own privacy (it's only other people's privacy which he consdiers an "outdated concept", it seems).

I handled a pair of Clinch boots at Clutch Cafe in London last year, fwiw. At the time they were £400, and noticeably more solid than, say, my Chippewas (which are themselves beautifully built). Price seemed in line with Lewis boots too. Unfortunately they seem to have skyrocketed since, but they do look great.

My first thought reading thiswas "paging Dav...."

I've said this before - I love that you're prepared to buy the high end boots and then wear 'em like they were intended.

I wonder whether the 'problem' with engineer boots at present is that they're just not popular enough for there to be much more than either 'cheap' stuff, or really high end.... There's got to be space for a pair of really nicely put-together engineer boots at the GBP200-250 price band. I'd love to see Aero give it a go - surely they'd be a big seller to the Aero jacket market?
The price did go up a little bit but I would not say skyrocketed (except the 20% surcharge for custom). A fd of mine bought his Clinch engineer boots way back in 2015 for slightly over 100000 yen. At the time, the only way to get them is through custom order. You may have mistaken their Mast trainer for boots. The Mast trainer is selling for GBP 495 at Clutch Cafe. A few of us almost ordered the all leather Mast trainer to serve as monkey boots given the more reasonable price. You can find bargain sometimes when the dealers are having seasonal sale. I paid less than GBP400 each for my engineer and plain toe because the local dealer was having a closed out sale.

Just looked at these yesturday. Quite attractive. Once I tried to build a "Custom" Wesco Boss 7400 as I would ideally like it and they would up quite a bit more than the $699 asking price of these. However that's still mighty steep in my eyes.

Maybe I misread them, then.... wishful thinking, possibly!

I could be tempted by a pair of basic Wescos when I'm next in the US, if ever the pound recovers. Likely to be in Memphis - is there anywhere there to buy that sort of thing?

This. Right this second! Seriously, they aren't making this a part of their permanent collection, while constantly releasing a whole ton of junk nobody wants to buy, even at %70 discount??? I have no doubt this would sell as well as any of the 618's, 118's or any of the Perfectos - if not even better.

Anyone from Japan who would want to help me out get this with a lower declared value???
