Exactly. One time my mom came home form Finckelstein's (in Baltimore) with a pair of industrial jeans and the minute I put them on my legs started to sweat. I could never understand how anyone could wear such things.
Sounds like my kind of place. Standard wear for childhood me included a pair of navy blue overalls and rain boots from Blain's Farm and Fleet (a Midwestern general store).

In another thread they report that Einstein's leather jacket sold for $147,000. This reminded me that in his college days the student radical's uniform was long hair, leather jacket, turtleneck sweater and dungarees.They borrowed the look from the working man. Einstein preferred to dress this way all his life.


So, if you want to know how a janitor or gas station attendant dressed in the early 20th century, he dressed like Einstein.
