What was the last TV show you watched?

Wimbledon. It's refreshing to watch a sporting event that isn't bathed, slathered, and drowned in advertising. The only thing on the court walls is a Slazinger logo tucked away in the corners, and they aren't very big. Rolex sponsors the official time clock, so there is the big clock in the corner of the court that you don't see often. IBM does the stats, and there is that. The players' clothing sponsors keep their logos low key. It is a posh sport. I has a lot of big money behind it (definitely no more than soccer, football, and basketball). I get it. It's nice on the eyes. That's all I'm saying. The play has been good.

I dunno. That sounds like a lot of advertising to me. lol lol

Generation Kill.
Please, if anyone here is USMC, tell me that inept leadership is just a trope of the genre and doesn't reflect real life.

I served three and a half in the Regular Army... Officers run the gamut just like every other profession or walk of life, from the sublime to the ridiculous. I served under West Point graduates who couldn't lead a dog to a steak and had some "Shake and Bake 90 Day Wonders" I'd follow to the gates of hell! The only problem is Officers have life and death control over you in peace and more so in war. All you hope for... or pray for is what Clark Gable said in "Command Decision".

"All you can do is try to make sure their deaths count for something. That they aren't wasted."

Amen.

Thank you Worf. It must be a terrible thing to know your life is in the hands of an idiot.

In peace time you can transfer out or try to avoid the silly git.... In war, in a front line unit you can either pray and do nothing, hope someone above him/her notices their complete incompetence, disobey and go to prison or worse yet get shot. There's one other option but I think you can figure it out for yourself.

Yeah, both of the idiots in GK are company commanders. The troops talk about dropping one of them, put quickly put that idea away.
There's a Gunnery Sergent who come across as a real idiot throughout, but then in the last episode, you see it's all an act to keep the troops disciplined in the face of boredom. The Battalion Commander is asked right at the end why he tolerates idiots, and he comes back with (IMHO) a really good answer about not letting gossip undermine authority, and placing trust in people.

Hell on Wheels, season three, first three episodes. I'm deploying with the RCN in four days, and we decided we couldn't wait until my return in January to start up after the first two seasons viewed in three weeks!

Do you mean you haven't "caught up" to this past season or you didn't cotton to it? If it's the latter tell us why? I thought this season was crankin'!
I thought the story was weak, and I thought they could have told what they did tell in a few episodes. They didn't need a whole season. I suspect the same primary content would have been a lot better had it not been spread so thinly. By most accounts, it's one consequence to the series moving more quickly than the books. The TV writers were adapting the story, and now they're writing the story. The reason this series was so wonderful was because of how rich the books are, and they were adapting it at a high level. It's too bad they hurried themselves into this role as writers. Slow down. Let the author lead the way.

edit. I should clarify what I mean. I loved the first four seasons, but maybe had they gone deeper into the story then (rather than further), which they could have, season 5 wouldn't have felt so sparse in development and movement.
