I liked the scenes of the boat, fake of course, but still neat.
Dicraprio (well close enough) was good in The Aviator, but otherwise I don't like him.

I don't dislike Titanic, but every time I see it I find the phony baloney love story between Jack and Rose more and more tedious.

I was finally able to watch The Man With Bogart's Face from 1979. Since the movie is not available on DVD, I'd bought an old VHS copy of it some time ago off eBay. I recently had a friend transfer it to DVD for me and finally saw it. Certainly worth a watch if for nothing but Robert Sacchi's uncanny resemblance to Bogart in both looks and voice. But the story was a passable one too, though I don't know why they didn't do it as a true period piece.

That is a great flick. I love the sets and costume detail - really makes me feel immersed back in time to that period. I love it when a movie can do that.

In that vein, The Winds of War miniseries was that detailed and effective IMHO.

The "Winds of War" is one of the few times that a really good book was made into a really good miniseries. The series did capture that feel of the movie. That said, and again, I love the mini-series, the book offers so much more as the author has the time to build out the themes - such as the philosophical roots of Germany's anti-Semitism and Superman complex (through Byron's studies) or the intricate reasons that led to a breakdown in the Henry's marriage (and both of them having affairs). If you enjoyed the series, the book is well worth the read.

Loved the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Not sure if you saw the American version or the Swedish but there are two more movies of the Swedish. Girl who Played with Fire and Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest . I am sure they are working on the second one the American version.

I took my wife to the movies on Friday night to see The Grand Budapest Hotel. It's an over-the-top surreal dark comedy/adventure concerning a between-the-wars mountain resort hotel located in what must be a Balkan location.

Good pacing, good acting, lots of cameos by well-known actors, oh, and it was funny, too, if a little crude from time to time. The sets were intentionally fakey looking, and added to the fun.
