just got home...

from the Stanford Theater in Palo Alto. We saw the 1928 silent "The Wind" starring Lillian Gish with accompaniment on the Mighty Wurlitzer and a Wurlitzer wind machine, along with the 1948 movie "Portrait of Jennie" with Joseph Cotten and Jennifer Jones with Lillian Gish is a cameo role.

La Diosa Arodillada, B&W 1947, starring Maria Felix. Pretty racy scenes for back then. Not sure Hollywood would have let it get out uncensored.

Woke up early this morning while the house was still quiet, before the stampede of little feet broke the morning stillness and scared the song birds away. So I watched Road to Morocco (1942) with my morning java. Nothing puts a spring in my step and a smile on my face like old Bob and Bing hitting the road.

Tease! What did you think of it?

:) It was good..but the movie could have been longer. It was somewhat comic book accurate to the James Howlett aka Logan back story. It focused mostly on the Silver Fox romance and the Sabertooth beef.

Any Barry Windsor-Smith style Weapon X stuff in there?

I dont want to give tooo much of the movie away... but there were some tweaks to the Weapon X story. It wasnt that comic book accurate to the original 1991 "Weapon X "story by Windsor-Smith. But "Jimmy" (how Logan is referred to at times by Sabertooth or "Victor" in the movie) goes willingly into the Weapon X project or the "Weapon - 10" project (youll see why Logan did this when you see the film) instead of being forced into it. He's also not brain washed and tortured like in the original 1991 comic book series... while in the program. But the Adamantium coating in the movie was extremely painful. The people behind the project go as far as telling Logan that it will be the most painful thing he would ever feel..Logan is skeptikal untill it actually happens.... Ive said to much now i dont want to ruin the movie for anyone. :)

I'm watching "Taxi Driver" tonight.
It is a classic. The final confrontation between Travis Bickle and Harvey Keitel's crew is still as good or better than anything released since.

Female Trouble.
My roomate walked in with some of her sorority sisters during the Christmas Day sex scene and they were horrified, until I explained to them that Divine was a man. Then they were even more horrified.
I'm pretty sure they think that I watch transvestite pornography now. Oh well.[huh]

Watched Midnight Mary directed by "Wild Bill" Wellman.
Starring Loretta Young, Franchot Tone, Ricardo Cortez, and Una Merkel.
This is the story of a poor girl trying to work her way up and out of the gutter. Mary Martin (Young) meets the highs and lows of society and finds herself on death row. Character discussions of sex, love, passion, and pregnancy are maturely handled in this pre-code classic. The film showcases the less than glamorous aspects of clawing your way out of poverty.
