The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. This is the first movie I actually liked Richard Gere in! I liked his way understated caricature.

Now I'm not a big Tarzan geek - I never watched Greystoke or read the books by Burroughs (though my husband did), but I still really liked it.

I'm really glad to hear this as the reviews were terrible. Although, now fess up, you didn't like it just because you got to see a pumped up Alexander Skarsgard in a loincloth ;). I think my girlfriend - a "True Blood" fan - would like it for that reason.

This weekend I watched 13 Hours on DVD, Michael Bay's story of the Benghazi attack in 2012. Very solid and entertaining, for two reasons: It's a color film done in color, instead of the washed-out bluish-grey you see a lot of "serious" films done in; and it has actual humor -- the kind of raunchy or gallows humor you'd find among soldiers. John Krasinski of The Office astonishes as the lead, and Grimm's David Giuntoli has a featured role.

Well, that was a nice part, I'll admit! But no, I liked it for the story. I've seen some people moan about it being a "white savior" saving the "poor uneducated Africans" , but I reject that narrative completely. Tarzan was always an African before he was a "white man." He was going to save his home and his people. Plus, the story of Tarzan is not ever going to be a PC one.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about: http://annelippin.com/blog/2016/07/04/you-tarzan-me-offended/

The blogger seems like an insufferable, whiny, complaining, boor! The internet really brings 'em out.

I also read a review on The Hollywood Reporter that echoed similiar sentiments. I really get tired of the PC crowd anymore who has to deconstruct a movie and pick apart every little thing that isn't racially or culturally sensitive for today's audiences.

Ironically, the bloggers complains about the film have entices me more to see the new Tarzan. It sounds like a good old fashioned African-style safarian action movie along the lines of "The African Queen".

The great Train Robbery (1903) Not exactly a feature length film by today's standards, but ground braking in it's day! Colorization of key parts, film backdrops, super controversial in it's day. The scene below was so controversial, it rivals any thing from today! Women fainted, men ran, politicians wanted to clean up the filth coming out of Essex County, New Jersey.

Difficult time sleeping last night....so I watched ' The Wolf of Wall Street ' on FX. I must say....absolutely the worst movie that I've ever wasted my time on. Full of extreme debauchery, drugs, excess and poor over-acting. Plus terrible juvenile depiction of sales manipulation and over the top rah rah phony enthusiasm. Just awful...o_O
