Finished watching "Drums Along the Mohawk" tonight. Henry Fonda, Claudette Colbert, Ward Bond.

I can't help but recall those GAF commercials HF did in the 70s, and how everybody made fun of the way he said "GAF" (shzee yay-yeff). What's even funnier is I don't remember what "GAF" was... camera film?

Forsaking All Others- What a delight!! Montgomery's a loveable goof, Gable's a charmer, Crawford shines in her role, and there's a sweet ending too. A completely satisfying film for the morning.

The Proposition. A bit on the slow side, but very good overall. (Although that could be my Nick Cave bias showing...)
Ray Winstone has climbed one rung higher on my list of favorite actors.

What Would Jesus Buy?

An interesting documentary about protest performers and their message of America's over consumption during the holiday season.

I liked it but it was a bit sad as these people work so hard on their performance (choreography, music, the whole bit) but are dismissed as silly out of work kooks mainly because of their non conventional execution in spreading their message.

There are some real good statistics about consumption and foreign made products and local businesses in the movie.

Which is similar to Ghost, but with many more exciting plot twists:
-musical numbers!
-camel races!
-cameos by mafioso Bollywood stars!
-two Sharu Khans (a la The Parent Trap)!
-giant, CGI puppets!

Thankfully, my parents (home from uni for the summer) have stopped commenting on the weird stuff I get from Netflix.

Wings
The silent film which was the very first Oscar winner for best picture in the 20's. Good movie even has a very young Gary Cooper in it for 5 minutes. Interesting how they shot some of the flying sequences. My 19 year old son was fascinated by it. I don't think he had ever seen a silent film before. (Can't say Silent Movie without thinking of Mel Brooks).

We also watched Robin and the Seven Hoods. Nice light mindless entertainment. He really liked that one. He is a big fan of TCM and is getting quite the education on the classics and not so classics.

Patriot Games with Harrison Ford. Good flick.

Lilies of the Field (1963), a happy, honest low-budget story about an itinerant laborer (Sidney Poitier) who gets in with a convent of German nuns in the Arizona desert and is soon building them a chapel. Lelia Skala, a big star in Austria in the '20s and '30s, is both formidable and sweet as the Mother Superior who masterminds everything.

Miss Potter (2006), with Renée Zellweger as Beatrix Potter. This got roundly panned, I think because the animated Potter characters struck people as a little too cornball, but Zellweger has something classic about her looks and manner that makes her particularly arresting in period pictures.

Ocean's Eleven (1960), the original Rat Pack vehicle. I have to admit I found it slow and lacking in intrigue compared to the Clooney-Pitt remake. But the atmosphere is priceless - cars, clothes, clubs, women, music...and there's a cameo by a very drunk and amorous Shirley MacLaine that may be the sexiest thing this very sexy lady ever put on film.

The Savages

An engrossing look at what people, who are caught up in their own lives do when an elderly parent is forced into their care.

One thing I really liked about it was how much they visited the retirement home to see their father.

Hubby and I went to the new Indiana Jones movie last night. It was good and I enjoyed it, but it's nothing compared to the first and third Indiana Jones movies. Still, I'd watch it again.

I just watched "National Treasure 2". It was pretty good.

I'm looking forward to watching "Hombre" later tonight starring Paul Newman and Richard Boone.

Loved that one. Were you not blown away by the advertising they did for that car, and the specialist said something to the likes of, "You wanna sell a car, drape a half naked woman across the hood of it." HA!

I really enjoyed both of those pictures. I loved Sidney Poitier and his relationship with the nuns, particularly Mother Superior. And I was enchanted by the whimsy that was Miss Potter. Good choices.

I just saw The Thirteenth Warrior.

Received the "Black Book" from Netflix yesterday and watched that last evening. I really enjoyed it even though it was subtitled. I loved Ellis' red evening gown I watch movies for the clothing and props.

I also watched Sweeney Todd, call me messed up but I loved it!! I love all the movies by Tim Burton, I think their fabulous.

"SEVEN" Is on cable tonight. I really like this movie. I heard some talk a couple of years ago that connected "Seven" and "The Usual Suspects".
The conclusion was that Kaiser Sosay was the killer from "Seven"....
