What to wear??

I'm going to a Rock N' Roll into spring fundraiser for my work (I work at the local SPCA) and my co-workers and I have turned it into a Sock Hop of sorts, so we're all dressing up 50's style...

I don't want to wear the typical poodle skirt and button down shirt outfit... everyone else is going to be wearing it... What should I wear? Also some hair and makeup ideas?

All i can think of is the stereo-typical poodle skirt, hair in a pony tied with a scarf...

You could wear cigarette pants or capri pants and heels with a tight, short sweater and a chiffon scarf around your neck--kind of "drag strip honey." Think of Sandy after her makeover in Grease.

Grease is actually a great reference. Go watch the movie and take notice of girls like Marty and Cha-Cha, as they were more into the sweaters and pants versus the poodle skirts. Cha-Cha's outfit from the final racing scene is a good one, and very easy to mimic!
