Indeed, but many '60s DBs had narrow lapels like the single breasteds, didn't they? I try to coordinate lapel width with ties as well so everything looks balanced.

Yes, I believe they were generally narrower. The double breasted (regardless of width) can and was worn with a stingy brim. I am looking at a book of men's fashions from the turn of the century. There are db outfits worn with felt and straw hats of stingy proportions.
