Does anyone have the skinny on the current version of WPG's G1? I remember their A2s were highly praised when they first came out, then less so later on. I'm looking for a G1 type specifically for a bit of a fun project (a sort of variation on the AVG theme, but a version I can actually wear in modern China when I visit). Looking for something decent enough (say Wested level) but not pricey because it's gonig to be patched up and monkeyed with. Kay Canvas do a really nice looking one I was hoping to pick up via Soldier of Fortune, but their sizing tops out at a level that would be just a size too neat for me. WPG offer a size that works well for my frame, but at this distance I'd hate to order it and it not be nice. Not so much worried about it being 101% milspec, more just that it's a decent jacket. Mall level but durable is fine for what I have in mind.

Wouldn’t you have better luck for this within China when you get there? Cut out the middleman as it were (since you’ll be there anyway).

Not so much - certainly in Beijing, where I spend time with work, there's nowhere I have ever found (in nineteen years) selling this sort of stuff. I suspect they wouldn't stock my Western size anyhow - I'm a 4XL over there!

Far and beyond a better jacket than anything WPG will make.
Copied off actual originals in their collection, genuine vintage mouton, details all there, repro hardware does the job.

I had some pretty good experiences with FIVESTAR leather - they are doing larger sizes as well

What would "4XL" translated in US-size (eg chest 48)?

I ended up selling mine to a friend because its trim-but-long cut didn't really work on my short/wide frame. But I thought that its mostly correct construction and serviceable materials were pretty comparable to Cockpit/US WIngs-level jackets costing twice as much.

I suspect their G-1 is also darn good for its cost, and likely just fine for your project - if you can get a good fit with their cut and sizing.
