What Other Forums do the FL Crowd Frequent?

Recently I have been frequenting the straightrazorplace forum, which has been mentioned, because I decided to try to shave with a straight razor. (It was sort of going OK till tonight when I cut myself pretty good.) Also spend some time on an Alfa Romeo forum because as long as you have an old or odd car you can use all the help you can get. Then there is the homedistillers forum which is a great resource for the making of (illegal) liquor.

This is the only forum I read daily! The only other forum I post on occasionally is, ADVrider, Café Racers. I do look at other forums when I am having troubles with one of my motorcycles, you can find a solution for any problem, no mater how old the bike is. In the olden days, you would have to rack up some big long distance call charges to get the same answer, and they were not always right!

I've been a member of variousforums over they ears, but mostly faded away from them. A theological board I was on for a few years turned into a playground for two very strong personalities (out of a regular crowd of maybe thirty) butting heads over one particular issue. I didn't quit, just stopped dropping in. From 2001 until last year I was a regular poster on a guitar forum. Unfortunately they changed the software and I was one of many who couldn't log in after that (an acknowledged glitch - I behave myself online! ;) ). I keep meaning to go back and start again there, but just not found the time. Mostly I find that Facebook has evolved to fill the gap for 'online socialising' that some forums once did; now I am limited to a couple of specific forums which allow for detailed discussion of specific interests. I've been regular on here for seven or eight years now, and as of last week am involved in the moderation end of things; I'm also involved over at sjcforum.com, where we discuss product ideas and dvelopments for Simon's SJC clothing label. I think quite a few of us in the Lounge have already bought some of Simon's denim; there are some very exciting tailoring projects looming also.

You forgot "ignorant" and "slavish." One of the most detestable traits of so many sartorial forums is that they essentially disallow any personal style or idiosyncrasies, both of which are the very heart of style. You tend to see a lot of "Can I do this or that?", which I always find kind of sickening.

I've looked in on other clothing forums here and there, and there does seem to be a very prescriptive attitude in a lot of them. Especially those focussed on a contemporary approach to tailoring / fashion - "Don't wear this, it's outdated, do wear that, but no socks", that sort of thing. Not my bag, really.

Besides here, I have been on Vintage Leather Jackets daily for many years (and its predecessor before that, and also Indy Gear's Club Obi-Wan for a long time)... but the truth is, I'm such an amateur in the jacket department compared to most of the gang there that I seldom have anything significant to add. I do regularly visit a board devoted to memories/research/photos of my old hometown, Yonkers, NY.

In the past, I spent a lot of time on Star Trek forums, forums devoted to classic b/w photography and subminiature cameras, Deadhead interests, animation... but they've all fallen by the wayside. I do visit a lot of film/TV blogs and sites on a nearly daily basis, and I am sometimes an active commenter on articles at some of them.

In this order......VLJ (Vintage Leather Jackets forum (USMF) U.S. Militaria Forum, War Relics Forum, Fedora Lounge, a marble forum (I like old marbles) and tried out RPF, it's a forum dedicated to reproduction movie props. Up until a bunch of what I assume were tape repaired glasses, tin foil on their heads wearing nerds verbally attacked me. You see, I had the nerve to notice that parts from a Mannlicher M1895 Rifle were used to make prop gun but didn't know the movie it was from, Judge Dredd or something.

Over the years various forums have occupied way too much of my time. Right now I'm on this one, paddling.net (I kayak) a couple of bicycle forums, mainly bentrider, candlepowerforums (flashlights), some guitar and music equipment sites, and probably a couple of others I'm forgetting.

One site I visit every day is Noirish LA. Actually, it's a thread on forum.skyscraperPage.com, but it's the most popular, up to 1600 pages now, dedicated to pictures and accounts of Los Angeles through its history, with emphasis on the "noir" years - the late '30s -50s. L.A. is one of my favorite cities and I learn new stuff about it every day there.

Monitor Top Forum. But I haven't posted in a while there.

Wow, that is a narrow subject matter to support a regular forum - are there a lot of new posts daily? I ask because we have a broad as heck theme here at FL, but many broad and popular threads - "What Movie did you most recently watch," for example - don't get a lot of traffic on any given day. That said, what do I know, maybe the collector - fan base for monitor tops (which I think are awesome) is huge.

Wow. I had to look "monitor top" up, as I'd never heard the term. Of course I recognized what it was when I saw the pics. I remember seeing them still in use when I was a kid. But, yeah, that's a pretty tight-focussed subject of interest.

I've joined a good few forums over the years, but I have a very low idiot threshold so I don't tend to stay very long. Luckily I haven't seen any idiots posting here on the FL, it's a rather civilised place to be.
I tend to be a reader/lurker more than a poster these days.

I spend lots of time in Reef Aquarium forums. I have been involved in the Aquarium hobby since the age of 10. So 52 years now. I was on the BOD of the national Saltwater society and have organized national aquarium conventions. Hats are my hobby away from my hobby.

I am new to the FL forum and really enjoy the crowd and expertise, but I was wondering what other forums the FL crowd frequents? I know we all have a limited amount of time to spend but I am curious.

I will start: I am a long time Porsche guy. I have been on PelicanPart Porsche 911 forum more than I care to admit. I have a vintage 911 and have been owning, driving and restoring air cooled cars for a long time. I also recently purchased an Italian scooter and frequent some of the scooter forum regularly, but now that the weather is changing so are my interests.

Beautiful house! I only F. Lounge it. No Facebook. No instagram. No Twitter. No snapchat. I do most of my conversing at work.
