As a psychologist, it isn't clinical depression unless it lasts for at least 5 months. Normal depression is normal (lol) We ALL get into unmotivated funks, especially if our routines have been disrupted and we need to go back to them. Being depressed is a normal human emotion. It's CLINICAL DEPRESSION (5 months or longer) that is a problem.

Great topic.....i used to always make an effort every day when i was younger, but working in male dominated places then going into the Army i mislaid my femininity for so long...i, still aprehensive due to some past issues i had when i make an effort!:eusa_doh:
I am clinically depressed and have very little human contact most of the time but im finally gettin my goals in order and reading through this thread has given me some hints and o lot of incentive....so thanx laddies (and gent!)xx
I'm in a real slump lately.
If it wasn't for laying my clothes out everyday, I'm pretty sure I'd be wearing whatever was the most soft flannel thing I could find in my closet. Like wahine, I could use some motivation. I'm planning on a short trip to lift my spirits, but other than that, any ideas?
This is probably going to sound bad to some of you, but I set out my clothes months in advance. I wear "house clothes" around the house (I do a lot of physical labor and I regularly rip things, so these are old clothes).
I use a calendar and count the weeks and lay out my clothes for the days I will be leaving the house for work. I use a rack set out in the spare room, and line up my clothes according to warmth and day of the week. (I dress down on Fridays, typically a sweater and a skirt). I can do this for about three months at a time. (I work at home at least one day a week, so I typically only do it for three-four days a week). I literally wear every piece of clothing I have that fits the seasons because I have to. If I need to repeat an item, I write it down on a card and stick it so it shows above the rack where it goes (so I know to laundry it or to replace it on the rack after wearing). I often repeat wearing skirts and blazers.
I find this much more motivating (why would I want to dress down and have to pick something out when I have an outfit planned?) and less time consuming than picking it out on a weekly basis. I also find I don't have things that I never wear, even though I like them, which was a problem for me before.
Oh Sheeplady! I wish you would come over an organize my 5 closets of clothes (vintage and contemporary) I rewear way to many things because I am rushing out the door and have no time to think on the outfit. I could easily go 3 months and not wear the same thing twice when the weather is warm.

So, I suppose my suggestion to all those that are having trouble with motivation is to start small. It takes just a few seconds to swipe on some red lipstick and it makes a tremendous difference in the way I feel compared to the days I wear no lipstick or even neutral colors.
Good luck to all those struggling to find their motivation.
If there is something you can do to make your experience of your day better it’s a good idea to do it. It’ll set you up to better deal with a bad day and to better appreciate a good one.
