This Resistol 3X Beaver Hi-Sierra has a 6 1/2” open crown so there was lots to work with. The watched Alan’s video doing a double diamond telescope crease on a per-war 5X CB, and thought I’d give it a try. Who knew that 1970s 3X can’t do what 1930s-40s 5X CB can do?
Still, I rather like how it turned out:

As it arrived:

After a lot of steam and distilled water misted on:

Outstanding job on that crease.

Here's a crease I decided on for an 1880s - 1902 campaign hat conversion I'm working on. The crease is loosely based on some pictures I saw of some campaign hats from the Spanish / American War. I modified this crease to my liking because the ones I saw in those pictures were a bit ugly. The creases were squeezed together and tapered up so bad that they looked like pyramids. Here's my version...

Ugly a$$ Campaign hat crease from the Spanish/American War that I'm loosely basing my conversion on...

I'm still working on it. My own modifications of the crease above...

I've got a star pattern figured out for venting and I'm searching the internet for some reproduction badges from the era. I may have a ribbon for it. I've got to figure out a brim shape for it too. There didn't seem to be a uniform mandate on how soldiers were supposed to wear their hats from that time. The creases and brim shapes varied from person to person, it seemed.

That is cool! I like your sophisticated crease as it is. I like your modifications of the hat based upon Spanish American hat pic you are envisioning. Now the star pattern vent is the ultimate touch to the felt. I will watch with curiosity to see the vent.

Mr.Jones you really have some skill with hat conversions! Cheers, Eric -

I watched the film noir classic Detour this afternoon. It’s a great classic movie with some wonderful classic fedoras. I snapped a couple of pictures of two of the characters hats and creases. Such different styles, and yet both fit each person very well. I really like how organic each crease looks.

In its prior incarnation, this Stetson had a diamond with a slightly domed center for the top of my melon.

While attempting to widen the humps at the top of the front crease (successfully), the formerly round dome, where the U is now, turned into this:

I'm not sure what to call it (heart crease? Mickey Mouse crease?), but I think it's pretty cool.
