A friend has turned this up and asked for help identifying it. I'm flummoxed. Anyone know what this is?

I think we need a couple of more photos of it, plus the dimensions. My rough guess is, a very ornate gavel, passably ceremonial more then functional.

What does it look like underneath?
My grandparents had something that looked very similar and was used for brushing crumbs off a tablecloth during fancy dinners.

That was my thoughts too, if there's a view of it from underneath and it looks like this, then Esther's cracked it.

That was it. The photo I displayed was the only one my friend sent, but she confirmed there were brushes. So crumb broom it is. Thanks everyone!

Correct,I remember one at my grandparents,never mind how long ago that was :rolleyes:.
