What is the longest order time you have gone through before receiving your order?

Thought it would be fun to look into this. I would believe it only comes with small makers of artisan items but would be curious to hear from you guys.

Only thing is that you must have received an item in the end (give us details as to why it changed in case it did)

So for me, it actually hasn't anything to do with leather jackets, it was a Japanese kitchen knife order in Tokyo:

- Initial waiting time was quoted at about a year
- A few months later, I was advised that it would take much more time, with no specific deadline possible
- No down-payment was requested, it might be due to the fact that the maker was already famous and they knew they would have no problem selling it in case I flaked out
- It was a "standard" item, ie no customisation possible
- I thought that the order was forgotten but about four years and a half later, I received an email out of the blue that it had arrived to the shop.

So in conclusion that was a happy ending, no stress or hard feelings as I was warned that it would not be possible to anticipate when it would be ready as well as no down-payment requested initially.

Fun fact, I could sell the knife directly after getting it with a hefty mark up (double if not more) and a new order would easily take over six years and that is just a rough estimate

Seventeen months for me on my first pair of Role Club engineer boots, I had sort of forgotten them so two days before I got the "your boots are ready" email I'd bought my first Eastman. A good week in the end

Been there.

I ordered a Randall knife a few years back which showed up with the wrong coloured handle. At that time wait was around 4 months so not terrible but I had to wait all over again.

Waitlist is at 12 months right now through a dealer, about 2 years through Randall. I just ordered another one a couple weeks ago.

I'll wait three months for a made product. That's it- life is short.

Gestation is different, natch. Waiting more than three months for a crafted item I just can't do unless that item is functionally drastically improved by the time spent waiting and only then if I am a specialist in its use. I like 'things'- I don't care about them so much that I'd wait around that long when other, more readily available items do the job as well.

My Good Wear probably was my longest wait, at a little less than 2.5 years. I've ordered other custom stuff before that has wait times, but not nearly as long. Few months, nothing that I even remember the exact time frame for. I did have to wait about six months after I went into contract on my home to move in, since it was a foreclosure and it took forever for the bank to figure their stuff out.

2 months average for all my Lost World jackets.
Langlitz was very quick at 1 and 2 months waiting time.
Aero direct natural horsehide sourced from Italy about 3 months.
Aero via Thurston about two months for most jackets.
Nothing compared to some of the above wait times.

I’ve been waiting almost five months for my latest Ciano Farmer denim jacket and I believe this is about how long I waited for my first Ciano Farmer denim jacket a couple years ago. I’m not in any particular hurry since it is the middle of summer right and I have found Ciano to be a pleasure to work with, which is why I am a return customer.

5 months for the Attractions engineer boots. It felt like an eternity. The second longest wait was about 3 months for a Bill Kelso jacket. I feel like I don’t want to wait that long for a piece of clothing anymore. Aero works fine as it’s normally less than 2 months.

I’m not a patient guy hence why I much prefer to buy off the rack whenever possible.

I don't wait for shit quite frankly.. BUT I'm an "off the peg" kinda guy and I know that.

I get "squirmy" waiting on post of a used jacket coming UK or USA to Australia. That can stretch to 3 weeks...

To quote Dirty Harry.... " a man's got to know his limitations"..

At one time there was an 18 month wait for a new Harley here in Australia. HD were BOOMING all over the world , and if you wanted a specific model IN a specific colour you waited 18 months. EG 2000 Fatboy in Gloss black and Silver 2 tone.

I just bought whatever "cancelled orders" occurred in that waiting chain. Paid full retail still , as you did back then.
The residual value of Harleys in Australia then was so good I would get 75% plus of my money back after 4 years and 60,000 K's. One bike, a 1995 Dyna, I got $250 MORE than I paid new after 2 years and 20,000 K's. Halcyon days indeed !

TBH, I didn't even use the knife yet. Reason being that I got pretty much everything I wanted by the time the order came. That being said it is such a very unique knife that I am happy to own and look at (maybe the reason I don't want it to form a patine although I could always clean it). For the story alone it is worth it. And in terms of value, I can sell it for more than double. So yes pretty much happy with it

I wanted it to be more positive

It is based on the premise of long orders that did deliver in the end. Although the inspiration to create this thread is very clear.
