What hat with a tuxedo?

I have trouble thinking of that as a tux. It's a green suit with a bound lapel.

I actually like the middle one though. Not as formalwear, but as a nice option for a night out.

A bowler is not appropriate, however if worn with an overcoat you could get away with this.

IMHO I think this trilby is completely disproportionate and unbalanced to his dinner suit. He should "Do the right thing" and wear a hat that completes an elegant ensemble not ruin the whole outfit.

Mr. Lee is also indoors and shouldn't be wearing a hat. It's just bad form for gentlemen to do so.

The question "What hat with a tuxedo?" is missing details needed to answer.

1) Where you are inside / outside / in public/ club house
2) Has the event you are attending any official enforced/traditional dress code.

Homburg, Trilby, Fedora, Trilbowler, Top Hat*, forage cap ( or No1. dress cap with mess dress!) - When outside in public. In Western climate suggest a black or dark Hat. In temperate climate, Pith, a Straw, or Panama, Boater may be appropriate.

* When wearing a top hat outside with evening jacket, then it looks more pleasing on the eye if worn with an overcoat or cape over the evening jacket.

Bowlers are considered Daywear - as such would not appear with evening jacket.

I have even worn a smoking cap and fez inside with evening jacket. Perfectly acceptable ( depending on event!).

No. If you wanted to go to a black tie event with me I'd take the chain and strange you with it. Sorry for the violence, but some things just aren't acceptable. Chains containing keys can be worn on the belt loops of an ordinery business suit (see Bogart in The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep) but this look ruins a dinner jacket.

These unconventional styles represent the extreme of designers' attempts to liven up the tuxedo. Few men will actually wear them. But the garments attract attention, and it is hoped that men will wear other styles by the same designer, the strategy goes. Designers, of course, say the new looks can substitute for a traditional tuxedo on formal occasions, though they concede not every man can pull them off.

The correct hat should be a steel helmet as you have a greater chance of survival when I see you. I'd also recommed a kevlar vest, even if it's not very classic in it's style. I think number one with long trousers would be nice as a suit, and number two for going out wear; but none of them for formal occaisions.

I was simply meaning that should we ever conduct business in a casino or something along those lines.

And if you wear the green ensemble I hope it's not to a black tie only event and I hope you lengthen the trousers. lol

I think it's against the classic "rules", in the rulebooks of old, but it's something people often tinker with, and probably perfectly acceptable.

With a white jacket, burgundy has been the accepted 'best practice' cummerbund catalogue since, I believe, the 30s. To my eye, black still looks better with a black jacket. Of course, I also lean to the view that a cummerbund is only really appropriate with shawl collar; peak lapels look much better with a waistcoat, in my opinion.

Back on topic, I tend to favour a homberg with black tie; a black fedora is fine too. I'm not myself a big fan of top ha with black tie - I prefer a topper balanced out by the longer length of a tailcoat.
