Alan, dammit - if I buy you a beer will you let me look at your hats lolA happy (belated) Felt Hat Day to all you hat nuts. Sharing a personal favorite that I acquired in its original box, kept in marvelous condition by the family of the original owner who passed away in 1943. He would have purchased this sometime from 1938-1941.

Great backstory! It was a dark and stormy... 4pm EST when Theodore Pemberton III entered Phipps & Wetherby, Haberdashers, carrying his late father’s Stetson One Hundred.
It was 1965. His father had left him a respectable portfolio, several firm opinions about labor, and a magnificent hat purchased a few years earlier for inspecting western investments through automobile windows.
Theodore wanted to be Bob Dylan. Unfortunately, he looked like someone sent to purchase Bob Dylan’s publishing rights. He wanted coffeehouses. A guitar. A woman who would describe him as difficult rather than eligible. He had begun writing songs about working people, although he had not yet met any socially.
The hat was an obstacle.
“Two inches,” he told the hatter.
Mr. Phipps had dressed generations of Pembertons and understood that their rebellions generally required skilled labor. The blade went around the brim. A ring of exceptional felt fell to the counter, taking several generations of paternal authority with it. Steam erased the old crease. Mr. Phipps pinched the crown, snapped the shortened brim, and added a narrow ribbon binding. The result was an aristocratic western hat surgically prepared to have opinions about society.
Theodore turned it over. His father’s head had polished the leather inside. He ran a thumb along it, then put the hat on.
In the mirror, he looked almost self-made.
He paid with his inheritance and stepped into the rain, ready to sing about the evils of accumulated wealth.

Wow, just F’n wow!! Beautiful hat!!Here is a Borsalino cowboy style of city dimensions... the model name seems a variation of the popular bound brim western L'udoela that recalled the Stetson Stratoliner and Open Road of the same era. This hat is about 75 years old, more than a decade earlier than the release of "Fistful of Dollars."
