Today, I kicked off my first "Fedora Friday" livestream on my YouTube channel to discuss the iconic hats in the classic film, The Godfather. As a tribute to the Michael Corleone character, I wore the same gray Dobbs Fifteen Homburg from 1957 that I wore to cast my vote on Election Day in 2024. "Leave the ***, take the fedora."

I have this old Portis that for whatever reason has become my Election Day hat the last few cycles. It always gets me into the spirit

Do you remember a lady from Belgium name of Esther Weis? She made me a hat very similar to Stetson's Stratoliner, she dubbed it: Strat-a-like. She made this one for me.

In the meantime my wife, Tina, had come across some fabric depicting old MG cars, from which she made me a classic MG shirt. One of the most interesting features of that shirt are the buttons. She made them out of lapel pins and, just in case I lost one, she bought a spare. When she saw the Strat-a-like she made use of that spare pin.

Thank you Robert. I’ve thought this novelty arrow tie clip would work well as a hat decoration. However have to pair it with just the right hat as you really need a wide enough bow keep to fill the gap in the prongs of this one. I have two others to try out as well. Those are both swords.

Your MG pin on your Strat-a-like suits you quite well! Especially with that shirt!

Nathan, I tend to favor my stingy-brims but as I always say, there really are very few "wrong" ways to do this hat hobby of ours. Indeed, I just created a new forum thread called "Show us your knockaround hats".

Indeed, no wrong way! I like the term "knockaround hats." I usually say "beater" but I might have to adopt your terminology for more formal usage.

I do the same. Try as I might, it’s a habit I can’t seem to get out of.. That said, I’m with the others. How I’d love to have a beater like that! It’s the ribbon colour and width, and how it works with the felt colour that does it for me.

love the curl... simple and clean

The curl was there when I got it and all I did was make it more uniform and straight, as the pure fur is very stiff.
think I remember Randy @Rmccamey said he had gotten it done by a hatter he knew??
This hat would be very uninteresting without its brim roll.

I like curls on larger brim hats to tame the width... my face can handle a 3" brim but not really a 4-1/2... That and they look classy and help keep the brim straight

Today heading out under another of last years Western to Town hat conversions. The heavier felt of the westerns makes for a good warm cool weather hat. A bit rigid, but you never have floppy brims or wavy parts lol. I personally like working with the taller western crowns as they just look better with some height that do so many of the modern hats with rather short crowns

This one one started life as a 4x Stetson western. Little bit of cleaning, trimming, and styling and it became a country gentleman
