Wow, what a parade of terrific hats of late!

The breeze was icy enough to remind me that it is not yet Summer, but still only Spring, on my stroll to the lake. A beautiful day nonetheless. The Campdraft Deluxe in Sand (Silverbelly when I purchased it in 2020) kept the sun's rays off of me.

Today saw the debut of my Wolfbrae Panama. Plantation style with a ribbon made from silk kimono fabric that we provided. I’d seen Robert recommend getting the shape of your head using a flexicurve. I decided to do so, and what I discovered was that I am not, in fact, a size 59, but a 58 long oval. I think I lost just over half a cm by shaving my head. The new hat is a great fit.

I keep coming back to this post and I can’t emphasize enough how much I like it. That’s a killer hat and a killer look for you. The personalization by supplying the ribbon fabric and getting it in your correct long oval head size make it even better. Congratulations on the Wolfbrae.

The Borsalino Ludosca just edges it, Stefan, but how difficult it is to choose.

For church this morning, a Stetson Sovereign. Worn special today for Tina, she is my Sovereign and today we celebrated our anniversary. After the service we enjoyed a traditional Sunday lunch at a quintissentially thatched country inn, joined by our friends.
I don’t know why my original reply didn’t actually post, so hopefully this edit makes it through.

GHT, you made a good choice with the Sovereign. It looks great - Happy anniversary!

So, down here in Florida it is definitely straw weather. Even though I wear felt year round, I thought today might be a great day to wear and pick up a couple of new straw hats.

First up . . . PXL_20250505_000646224.jpg PXL_20250505_000655614.MP~2.jpg PXL_20250505_000623299.jpg
This is a Colombian-made Monterrey brand straw. I went to a vintage clothing store reputed to also sell hats as part of their vintage wares. That was only partially correct. They did sell hats, but not vintage. Wool and shantung modern stuff, mostly for tourists, but they did have a section of genuine Panamas and other South American straws. I could tell the owner wished he could actually sell more of the good stuff and he had no problems with me steering a couple of customers away from the overpriced Shantung to the Panama and Colombian stuff (even at a slightly lower price point). Bought this from him to be encouraging.

Then there was this . .. $3.99 at my new favorite thrift store.

Here is a lightweight (64 grams - 2.25 ounces) Borsalino Pocket Hat. It seems many of the hats made for the tourist market in the 1950s never made it out of the coffin shaped boxes in which they were interred for the journey homeward. Every one I've found over the years had never been worn but each was a challenge to unroll and freshen up after half a century or more of imprisonment. This one seems a natural for rolling with its grosgrain sweatband, but I won't be doing it again any time soon.

You’ve got that one looking pretty sharp. Great looking color. I’ve got a few of these “coffin box” hats. A couple that don’t get worn too often stay in their boxes. A couple others that like yours don’t ever go back in. But I’ve got one that I use as a travel hat and roll it up and throw it in a zip lock…. As I don’t wish to destroy the old box getting stuffed in my travel bag. It always pops up reasonably serviceable.
