What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Hemp Stratoliner for today. I don't know why, but snapped down does NOT work for me with this hat. I do like the way it looks snapped up. That's not a negative statement about the hat, but about my head, face, etc. The quality of all of Stetson's hemp straw hats has been outstanding from my experience with them.

And while we're showing off our racks and hanging systems, here's what my lovely wife very recently bought for me to hang my hats on in the "TikiBus" (our vintage motorhome). They're supposed to be mushrooms in case you were wondering, lol.

That is one SERIOUSLY good-looking hemp, Gary. Like you, I'm not generally much on brims up, but on that hat, on your head, that's a solid killer look.

Stetson Florentine Milan Stratoliner that behaves much like Gary in NC's hemp one. I can snap the brim down & it looks " all wonky"" for lack of a technical term. Lol.

I steam and Iron my hemp Stratoliner brims with very good results. I iron the front half of the brim basically flat and leave the snap in the back. I sometimes have to re-iron the wonkies out of the front after a couple days, but the hemp flattens out nicely with steam. I did have ONE hat that just wouldnt behave so I gave up and ironed the whole brim flat with a bit of front and rear Australian swoop. Not sure how a straw or polyester Milan weave would respond.. steam is prob ok but Id be Leary of a hot iron. Even with hemp I use a press cloth. View attachment 700788

Happy May 1, everyone!
Snow accumulation piles in the woods or on the north sides of any structure where it may have shed from the roof are still with us, but shrinking daily. WooHA; spring is upon us!!

Since warmer weather is imminent, I chose the heavy-felted Lee Gold Label while I can. It’s from the late 1950’s.

Today was another two-hatter. In the cool morning, I wore my just-arrived Resistol Chaparral, from their Stagecoach Collection.

In the much warmer afternoon, my outing required a change of clothes and, of course, a change of hat. My choice was a black Pinzano Milan straw.

Im getting the grey one this Friday , hope mines not too wonky. I checked out a few black ones at a hat shop yesterday and they flipped down fine. Berkeley hat shop didnt have my size so had to order online.

Those are two totally different looks, and you absolutely rock in both of them. I’m digging the Pinzano. That ribbon and brim size are killer together.

Keep a close eye on that. Some of the current wave of respiratory ailments can be vicious to get rid of.

Will do Mark. My son ended up having pneumonia a few weeks back after the walk in docs insisted his lungs were clear and wouldn’t put in order even though they have chest X-ray on site . Luckily we got him into his primary and X-rays showed the infection. Antibiotics cleared him right up in 24 to 36 hours.

Hopefully between Nathan’s old world hot water hack and my wife’s TikTok marshmallow hack I should be all good. And if not…. There will be more “hacking” either way. LOL

Ive always loved the turquoise.... hopefully tomorrow the mailman will bring me a box and Ill be adding a navy blue Borsalino braided hemp to the wall! Cant wait to have another nice blue hat! I adore hemp fedoras

Wow, Rick - that looks great! I’ve used my steamer, misted it with a spray bottle, even used stiffener combined with all of that, but it never occurred to me to iron it. I’ll try that first chance I get to spend some time with it.

Ive noticed that steam adds more "body" to the hemp brim and allows it to hold shape when ironed... I love these things

Thank you, Gary. That one came from a sadly-now-closed store in Oakland, CA called The Hat Guys. I bought a LOT of hats from them the entire 29 years they were in business. They almost always had a MASSIVE number of hats in stock; felts, straws, flat caps, everything from Borsas to golf caps. Sadly, changing men's fashions, and a deteriorating downtown, finally forced them out of business about 8 years ago.

Felt quality on them, IMO, is very, very, good. I've done a lot of shaping on a bunch of them over the years, and pro hat crafters like Terry @T Jones and Randall @Randall Renshaw, both give them high marks as well.
