Mailman showed up today with a package,,, a RM Williams waxed cotton jacket to replace my long lost Barbour. If my memory is correct, this coat is a heavier weight fabric than the old Barbour. feels substantial. Just in time for the rain starting tonight.

SO today I have a new job... Austrailian fashion model. Figured my old Akubra Lawson was a perfect fit... ( love the braided kangaroo band on this one)

Or perhaps the Akubra Sidewinder is just as good?

I saw these two magnificent hats first thing this morning and was feeling some serious hat envy, so I spent the day in my beaver Hornskov Broker.

freestar

It helped somewhat, as did this huge lunch at a local Taiwanese place we’d been wanting to try. ¥950 ($US6.25) each, and very satisfying.

And Etsuko’s.

And finally, I don’t have the special vintage app, but here’s my vintage version using my regular photo editing app.

Hat, jacket and food; all fantastic, Gary.

Just a sidebar question regarding Australian gear... I noticed that the RM Williams has a left handed zipper. I remember years back I had to buy a jacket at an airport in Argentina ( when Laska Airlines lost my luggage) and it had a left handed zipper. ( going to Tierra del Fuego in shirt sleeves is not a good idea lol) Always seemed to me that in North America and Europe, mens clothing had right hand zipper pulls/ buttons and womens clothing had left hand pulls/ buttons.

Can any world travelers enlighten me if this is common in certain places for a reason (southern hemisphere thing, or a carry over from some colonial customs maybe ?)

Are there any regional carry over specs for hats that are different from one place to another? ( like the sizes are for example). I ask that because in looking at some Borsalino hats I see some marked as 59/ 7-1/4 and others as 59 /7-3/8... IS a 59 a 59 regardless?

Max Wiese Berlin, Stolzf. Luxury Velour made for Leineweber Berlin, possibly early to mid 1930s. The steingrau / stone gray close crop Velour is very dense with high gloss. Found this fantastic Velour back in 2017.

I can't answer for the clothing, but for the hats, yes a 59 should be a 59 everywhere since it is the centimeters. The sizes other than the centimeters could vary. The UK size is one size larger than the US. So a 7-1/4 UK would be 7-3/8 US.
