OK, having been chided by friends on another forum, I now own a homburg. I didn’t put on a dress shirt and tie for the pic, so it’s entirely inappropriate (I think) for my attire, but here it is.
The label is Fahey-Brockman, which was a family owned chain of clothing stores (Seattle, Portland, Denver, SLC) from approximately 1920 to 1967. No one seems to know who actually made the hats (or the men’s suits) that they sold, but their goods seem to enjoy a pretty good reputation among vintage clothing and hat collectors. The hat is well constructed, and it’s somewhat small, as homburgs go, so it doesn’t look as odd on me as “fuller” homburgs usually do.
It is not a hat I would wear “out and about” in casual clothing; I still maintain that I just can’t pull that look off, as many of you so easily do. But at some point I will don a dress shirt, tie, and suit coat, and shoot a pic in those. I suspect it will not look as goofy as I always think I will in this style of hat, but, again, it’s a small-framed one.

Is it a homburg or is it a western?
Hold on, Mark, you are on the right track. I've seen many "homburgs" that lean western by simply lifting the side brims, pulling the front and rear down, and playing with the crease. I have two Wolfbrea hats just that way. You have a good start with that one!

You're right, Randy. I look at the one you've posted, and see it more as a "western gentleman's hat" than what I would traditionally think of as a homburg. Hmmmmm. Maybe there's room for some experimentation in my future.

Here lately I've been on the hunt for western style hats from some of the more "traditional" hatmakers. This Dobbs West got the nod today & I especially like how the gold 3 cord ribbon looks against the chocolate brown felt.
