What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Today, a greatly modified Akubra...."Adventurer", 2 5/8" (all around) re-flanged brim, mid-ribbon, added wind cord, new liner, and creased with a nod to the "clipped" pinch hats of the 30's. I really like the thinner felt of this one.

Forgot to add the liner shot.....

Dave’s not here.
Man, you’ve done some travelling, Nathan. With your health on the improve, you’ll be getting itchy feet again.
I first heard that Cheech & Chong skit at school. It was a music class. We had a relief teacher and one of my classmates had it on cassette tape and asked to put it on. I recall that one and the “Class…class…class….SHUT UP!“ one. The relief teacher was an older lady and just didn’t know what to do or how to react, but we were all in hysterics!
Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Glad to have triggered some fond recollections. I am not familiar with the other skit you mention - I’ll have to check it out.

Yeah, I left Florida in July, 2009 and traveled non-stop until April, 2023 when poor health demanded that I take a lease and rest. I am definitely itching to get back on the road, thanks for the encouraging words in that regard!

The other skit, he is referring to might be called Sister Mary elephant.

Something special from my collection that I haven’t shown here before: 1940s-ish 3ply Royal DeLuxe Stetson with stars on liner and sweat.

The sweatband is toast but it’s a size too small anyway. I love the block so much that I hesitate to stretch it and install a new leather sweat. I would rather put in a cloth sweatband just so I can wear it more often - but I haven’t found a new cloth sweatband anywhere (I guess I might have to take one out of another hat?).

I don’t intend to sweat in this guy anyway - he is just about as perfect of a thin ribbon as I have so far as felt quality, block and patina are concerned. And I adore the color. But I would like to wear him more often.

Best wishes to all.

And one last photo from a few years back when I first acquired this fellow (back when my hair was still dark):

Nice one. Looks like an Open Road from when it had a three cord hat band rather than the 3/8 thin ribbon it now has.

Thanks Terry! And it could be, though it doesn’t say so anywhere.

Also, the following ad that @jlee562 posted a few years back doesn’t list this color (whatever it is) as an option in the RD line - but who knows?

Definitely good to know the evolution of the OR: from wide ribbon to 3-ply to thin ribbon, no?

Yessir. It started out as a wide ribbon and finally ended up to what it is now.
I just downloaded that ad! Nice find.
